Lo scritto, tuttavia, non suo frutto esclusivo; esso infatti nasce dall'incontro del Padre Achille con una ""Dama milanese"", Isabella Berizaga, le cui singolari esperienze mistiche e il cui sincero discernimento hanno svolto un grande ruolo, in quanto attiene la vita dello spirito nell'elaborazione del Compendio stesso. La singolarit dell'opera fu avvertita con forza dai contemporanei, e, se incontr il consenso di molti trov pure in altri vivace ed anche maliziosa opposizione. Le vicende della sua recensione vennero poi ad inserirsi nel pi ampio dibattito che nei decenni successivi si accese intorno al Quietismo.
