Описание: Engaging College Men is a ground-breaking collection of essays by mentors of college men and high school boys on what works to increase their engagement as citizens and participants in the common good. Sponsored by the Lilly Endowment, Engaging College Men presents a variety of programs at fourteen colleges and universities and select high schools and reports on their widely differing ways of guiding men to vocational discernment and a sense of purpose in life. As enrollments of men in college decline, this book is essential reading for college services administrators, teachers, and counselors who are committed to involving males in academic life and service to the community. An important, well conceived, and neatly presented body of research on how college men go about vocational discernment--sorting out what they want to do with their lives. With a great deal of valuable information and insight, it offers interesting case studies drawn from a variety of colleges, all of which are framed by a larger discussion of deeply gendered nature of that process. Editors Gar Kellom and Miles Groth are seasoned scholars who care deeply about the education and well-being of boys and men. Because of its broader implications, this book will be of general interest to anyone concerned with spirituality, masculinity, or career development. --Chip Capraro, Associate Dean, Hobart and William Smith Colleges Gar Kellom, PhD, served as the Vice President for Student Development at Carroll College (WI) and St. Johns University (MN) from 1984-2010. He then served as the Director of Student Support Services at Winona State University until retirement in 2016. At Saint Johns he founded the first mens center on a liberal arts college campus and the Center for Mens Leadership and Service hosted the annual conference on the college male for seven years, organized student volunteer programs in local schools, mens spirituality groups, a faculty/student exchange with Morehouse College, research projects, conference presentations, international study/service trips to India/Nepal as well as Trinidad and Tobago. At Winona State he founded the Dedicated Academic Dads Program (DADS) offering support and weekly lunches for student fathers.
