Описание: Startling in its innovation and daringly suicidal, Operation Dingo was not only the Fireforce concept writ large but the prototype for all the major Rhodesian airborne attacks on the external bases of Rhodesian African nationalist insurgents in the neighboring territories of Mozambique and Zambia until such operations ceased in late 1979.
Fireforce as a military concept is a 'vertical envelopment' of the enemy (first practiced by SAS paratroopers in Mozambique in 1973), with the 20mm cannon being the principle weapon of attack, mounted in an Alouette III K-Car ('Killer car'), flown by the air force commander, with the army commander on board directing his ground troops deployed from G-Cars (Alouette III troop-carrying gunships and latterly Bell 'Hueys' in 1979) and parachuted from DC-3 Dakotas. In support would be propeller-driven ground-attack aircraft and on call would be Canberra bombers, Hawker Hunter and Vampire jets.
On 23 November 1977, the Rhodesian Air Force and 184 SAS and RLI paratroopers attacked 10,000 ZANLA cadres based at 'New Farm', Chimoio, 90 kilometres inside Mozambique. Two days later, the same force attacked 4,000 guerrillas at Tembu , another ZANLA base, over 200 kilometres inside Mozambique, north of Tete on the Zambezi River. Estimates of ZANLA losses vary wildly; however, a figure exceeding 6,000 casualties is realistic. The Rhodesians suffered two dead, eight wounded and lost one aircraft. It would produce the biggest SAS-led external battle of the Rhodesian bush war.

Описание: Fearing that their "civilization" would be overwhelmed, a tiny enclave of whites in Central Africa rebelled against a power which a little more than twenty-five years before had ruled the largest empire the world had ever known. Robert C. Good provides an immensely readable account of the international politics of the Rhodesian rebellion which, as

One of the most tragic wars in Southern Africa's history, the Rhodesian Civil War, raged for over a decade.
Spanning from 1966 to 1979, the seeds for this conflict were sown almost a century earlier when, in 1889, the British South Africa Company was granted a Royal Charter to occupy land north of the Limpopo River.
An inevitable clash of ideology and political ambitions ensued, culminating in the Rhodesian Government declaring unilateral independence in November 1965, a move that set the nation alight.
This dramatic and detailed book maps out the critical events that led to war, identifying the combatants and detailing chronologically the salient events of the conflict.
Through detailed narrative, Rhodesian History author John Frame, traces how international political interferences influenced the war, and why the Rhodesian Security Forces lost the war despite having won most of the battles.
It showcases how Rhodesia was caught in the vice of the Cold War and the how, through the political ambitions of major powers, the combatants in this bloody war were not in control of their own destinies.
Описание: In 1965 the white minority government of Rhodesia issued a unilateral declaration of independence from Britain, rather than negotiate a transition to majority rule. The author shows that the exception that was Rhodesian independence did not, in fact, make the state that different from new nations elsewhere in Africa.

Описание: The 1st Battalion, The Rhodesian Light Infantry, was one of the most innovative and successful counter-insurgency units in history. This study explores the unit`s dramatic history, revealing the Rhodesian Light Infantry`s airborne and combat capacity, which gave the unit, at times, near total tactical superiority against its opponents.
Описание: This important book is the first in-depth history of the Rhodesian railway system. Covering the period 1888-1947, when the Rhodesian railway system was privately owned by Cecil Rhode's British South Africa Company, this book uses the Rhodesian railway system as a prism through which it refracts many dimensions of the imperial experience in central and southern Africa, ranging from the impulses underpinning the regional ambitions of Rhodes himself to the origins of black worker protest in the Rhodesias.
