Описание: This rigorous comparative study of national identity in Japan, South Korea, and China examines countries with long histories influenced by Confucian thought, surging nationalism, and far-reaching ambitions for regional importance. East Asian National Identities compares national identities in terms of six dimensions encompassing ideology; history; the salience of cultural, political, and economic factors; superiority as a model national community; displacement of the U.S. in Asia; and depth of national identity. Through this analysis, Gilbert Rozman draws the three countries together in an East Asian National Identity Syndrome. Other contributors review historical sources and critical themes of identity in all three countries.
Contributors include professors of sociology, international relations, and political science in the United States, Japan, South Korea, and China.

Описание:

Ch'ing China and Tokugawa Japan were unusually urbanized premodern societies where about one half of the world's urban population lived as late as 1800. Gilbert Rozman has drawn on both sociology and history to develop original methods of illuminating the historical urbanization of China and Japan and to provide a way of relating urban patterns to other characteristics of social structure in premodern societies. The author also hopes to redirect the analysis of premodern societies into areas where China and Japan can be compared with each other and with other large scale societies.

The author divides central places into seven levels and determines how many levels were present in each country century by century. Through this method he is able to demonstrate how Japan was rapidly narrowing China's lead in urbanization and show that Japan was relatively efficient in concentrating resources in high level cities. Explanations for differences in urban concentration are sought in: a general discussion of the social structure of each country; an analysis of marketing patterns; a detailed study of Chihli province and the Kantō region; an examination of regional variations; and a comparison of Peking and Edo, which were probably the world's largest cities throughout the eighteenth century.

Описание: "This book gives us a glimpse into the hearts and minds of the fastest-growing segment of entrepreneurialism in our region." -- Johnathan Weinhagen, CEO and President of Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce

"Green Card Entrepreneur Voices: How-To Business Stories from Minnesota Immigrants" is a collection of essays and digital narratives from twenty immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs living in Minnesota. Written in the tellers' own words, these stories offer insight into immigrant entrepreneur expertise: how they did it, why they did it, and what they learned in the process.

These storytellers, who come from nineteen different countries, describe their childhoods, the reasons they left their homes, their first moments in a strange land, and the ways they've contributed to their new home. They've build multi-million-dollar companies, founded community arts organizations, developed products that support their home countries, and designed new organizations in the US based on their cultural traditions. They are social entrepreneurs, company founders, and everything in between.

Immigrants are among the most entrepreneurial individuals in our nation. They create new companies, provide jobs, and contribute to the American economic landscape. This book, along with its accompanying video narratives, memorializes these contributions. "Green Card Entrepreneur Voices" is an inspirational resource and how-to guide for anyone who wants to know what it takes to succeed as an (immigrant) entrepreneur in our nation.

Описание:

This book takes an entirely new approach to the evolution of cities and of societies in premodern periods. Refining the theory advanced in his earlier study of China and Japan, Gilbert Rozman examines the development of Russia over several centuries with emphasis on the period immediately preceding the Industrial Revolution. He makes possible comparison of urbanization in five countries (including England and France as well as Russia) and develops a systematic framework for analyzing cities of varying size.

It provides scientifically validated HeartMath techniques to synchronize your heart, mind and emotions, and more easily find a place of inner stillness. The HeartMath Meditation Assistant can be a facilitator to any system of meditation, self-help or healing practice. In this program, all systems and techniques are honored and respected. Whatever practices you follow, using the emWave or Inner Balance creates more ease and flow from the heart, which helps you gain the benefits you are seeking and experience new enrichment. Throughout, you will find interesting stories and testimonials from people who have used the HeartMath methods to assist their meditation or mindfulness practices and gain more inner peace, clarity and connection to the intuitive guidance of their heart."Too often when people meditate, they actually have no idea how they're doing. There's no feedback. The beautiful thing about the HeartMath program is it gives you immediate ongoing feedback to know how you're doing. The HeartMath program actually measures where you are and can guide you to a better place scientifically - and that's the cool part. So the plan would be - you have to assess where you are. You can't know what you don't measure. You have to train your brain, which is really what HRV training is all about. It's soothing the brain. It's state training. It's how to get into an optimal state so I can feel and function at my best."- Daniel Amen, M.D., psychiatrist and best-selling author of Change your Brain, Change Your Life "Since I am one of the teachers in the movie and book, The Secret, and have been teaching the Law of Attraction for many years, I have also been recommending the emWave(R) and the Inner Balance(TM) to anyone who wants to more quickly create a 'vibrational match' for the things they want to attract into their life. Our emotions (joy, love, caring, compassion, appreciation) are the key, and many people do not know how to intentionally create the emotional states they want. The HeartMath tools and the emWave and Inner Balance technologies are ideal for easily and effortlessly accomplishing this."- Jack Canfield, Co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul(R) series "The emWave or Inner Balance] technology is especially helpful to people who want to meditate but have little time; have been told by their doctor they need to meditate but don't know how; and for anyone who has been through the frustration of trying to meditate and having a hard time quieting their mind -- now you can with this personal pocket meditation assistant that takes you there."- John R tz, Founder & CEO of The Visioneering Group"Part of my daily centering practice has been the meditative practice of taking and sending, or Tonglen and Lojong. They are Tibetan teachings from The Path of Great Awakening. The intention with these practices is to awaken us to the openness and softness of our hearts; and in so doing we can widen our circle of compassion. These practices, along with the HeartMath techniques, really support me each day in staying focused and in the present moment. Recently I decided to use my emWave Desktop to see what my meditative practice would look like in the language of my heart. I opted to run the Emotion Visualizer and the feedback was immediate It validated for me what I was feeling in my heart, great expansiveness and compassion. It was as beautiful to watch as it was to feel. The more focused I was in my practice, the more validation I received watching the screen in front of me filled with beautiful color and images. In addition, at the end of my practice I was able to look at my heart rate variability and see my progressively improving coherence scores. I love that "- Nellie M., Wellness Prac

Описание:

For Ellen Rozman, good, even great, was never good enough. Fear of failure consumed her thoughts, so she pushed herself to outperform even her highest expectations.

An avid triathlete, runner, and group fitness instructor, Ellen's passion for exercise grew into addiction--the harder, better, faster, stronger mentality dominated as her belly bloated in rebellion. She became obsessed with clean eating, blaming her bowel issues on everything she put into her mouth. Ignoring her symptoms, Ellen continued to ramp up her training and refine her food choices until a midnight trip to the ER and a lifesaving surgery literally stopped her in her tracks.

Yet her digestive issues persisted. Ellen consulted a plethora of practitioners, and after months of cluelessness and catastrophes, she came to an unexpected realization: gut health plays a huge part in the internal motivations for our actions. And to heal, vulnerability and self-compassion play a predominant role in the prescription.
Full of Shit, Ellen's hellish yet hilarious tale of healing, is a brutally honest, raw, and enlightening exploration of the gut-brain connection. It's the story of a woman learning to trust herself, her intuition, and her body telling her what she did not want to hear.
