Описание:
Paul and the Greco-Roman Philosophical Tradition provides a fresh examination of the relationship of Greco-Roman philosophy to Pauline Christianity. It offers an in-depth look at different approaches employed by scholars who draw upon philosophical settings in the ancient world to inform their understanding of Paul. The volume houses an international team of scholars from a range of diverse traditions and backgrounds, which opens up a platform for multiple voices from various corridors.
Consequently, some of the chapters seek to establish new potential resonances with Paul and the Greco-Roman philosophical tradition, but others question such connections. While a number of them propose radically new relationships between Paul and GrecoRoman philosophy, a few seek to tweak or modulate current discussions. There are arguments in the volume which are more technical and exegetical, and others that remain more synthetic and theological. This diversity, however, is accentuated by a goal shared by each author - to further our understanding of Paul's relationship to and appropriation of Greco-Roman philosophical traditions in his literary and missionary efforts.

Описание: There's always a chance the past will come back. Always a chance for secrets to reveal themselves... Claire Monroe thinks she has it handled. She's moved back to her home town, bought a house and has been commissioned by The King Edward Hotel in Toronto to paint three original works. She never imagined that at the conclusion of her meeting she would see Austin McKinley, love of her life and world-renowned rocker, walk into the lobby. Letting him go six years ago so he could fulfill his rock star dreams was the hardest thing she ever had to do. Seeing him now involves a revelation she isn't prepared to face. All Austin sees in the lobby of his hotel is the woman responsible for sending him into a tailspin. His destructive behavior had been the result of a broken heart and a shattered dream that didn't include his music. For six years he's kept up the fa ade for his band. Yellow Scarlet hit the big time, and he couldn't just up and leave. But he has finally reached his limit. The band is taking a badly needed break to regroup and rest. Seeing Claire is unexpected, and the realization that he still loves her grates at his every nerve. Austin will fall in love again and will quickly find out that they have a bond that can never be severed. Their love is young, it is real and it is irrevocable. Author's note: Due to strong language and scenes of a sexual nature, this book is intended for 18+.

Описание: This book attempts to prove the consistent nature of Paul's financial policy by drawing from his social environment and theological convictions to tease out a three-way relational pattern with God as the source of all possessions. This three-way relational framework not only dictates Paul's decision to accept or reject finances from his churches but also directly challenges long-standing claims made about Paul's financial policy. After outlining the various approaches that scholars have taken to make sense of Paul's seemingly inconsistent financial policy, this book provides a close exegetical analysis of relevant passages in Philippians, 1 Corinthians, and 2 Corinthians in order to unearth a three-way relational pattern found in Philippians but that is absent from the Corinthian Correspondence. In Paul's positive gift-exchange relationship with the Philippians, God is acknowledged as the source of all possessions, whereas the Corinthians are criticized for striving after two-way exchanges that result in honor, power, and prestige. After this is demonstrated, a socio-theological reason for Paul's refusal of Corinthian gifts is propounded. Paul refused Corinthian support, not because they desired to patronise him as a dependent client, but because they sought to be under Paul as their superior, an act that neglected God as the superior source of all gifts in the divine economy. Paul therefore refuses their support to avoid two-way relationships of gift so prevalent in ancient society and to underscore the source of the gift of the gospel, the one from whom and through whom and to whom are all things - God.
