Описание: There are instantly recognized names in the racing world. Isle of Mann, le Mans, Indianapolis, Ulster, Daytona... One name which is not so recognizable is Frederick. It's an event with a past that will surprise most of those who thought they knew the history of motorcycle racing. It's a race that has quietly gone on, decade after decade with little notice. This race began in 1921. Distinguished from others by being promoted by the same people for generations and being sanctioned from that date till the present. Motorcycle racing though, has been taking place on this exact same track much longer. Motorcycle racing has been taking place in this city much, much longer. Notably, this annual race, 100-years in age, takes place each year on American Independence Day. The Fritchie runs on the fourth of July, just as the very first documented motorcycle to race in Frederick did, in 1900. Flat Track racing originated in America on the many county and state fairground tracks located in hundreds of cities across the continent. A uniquely North American sport celebrated here annually on the equally unique American Independence Day. The Barbara Fritchie Classic motorcycle race, is an unsung verse in racing history. An important verse deserving to be better recognized by race fans and history fans. A race whose significance and the true depth of its history, was never fully realized until now. This is not a coffee table book The first dilemma faced in this project was how to write a book for people who do not normally read history books. We hope you will agree that it was successful. We hope this is a book you will read, because it has much more to offer than facts, dates and statistics. The original target was the racers themselves, but as the research progressed, it was quickly realized that this is much more than the story of a race. The final product is not just for racers Anyone wanting to understand Frederick through the 20th century will find this book valuable. Anyone wishing to understand the evolution of racing through the 20th century will value this book. All those with any personal connection to this race, will relive memories in this book. The more than 380 illustrations are a major part of the story. These are not slick, crisp, artistic offerings. Most, like dirt track racing itself, are a bit fuzzy. Very few were originally produced with intentions of publication. All are black & white to keep the finished book affordable. We want you to read this book. We want you to carry it on the road with you. Curl the cover and dog-ear the pages. Use it to collect autographs. We want you to KNOW and appreciate this history, not leave it on a table or shelf. Countless contributor's personal photos, vintage ads, posters, programs and period news reports bring the story to life. The names of those involved and how they connected to racing. The memories of past riders. How they connected to the machines, to each other, and to Frederick. Not simply "Who, What, When and Where" but as much as he has been able to, Ted Ellis has tried to explain "Why." To bring The Fritchie to life, from the first race to the most recent. To tie the people to the events and the events to real people's lives. The centennial BFC will be July 4th, 2021. If you only see one Barbara Fritchie Classic in your life, if you only see one motorcycle race, don't miss this one "100 YEARS OF FLAT TRACK RACING" is the perfect companion as you prepare for that event, or afterward as you reminisce about it. The Barbara Fritchie Classic. There's nowhere else to be

Описание: Barbara Winslow, Rebel This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING

Описание: Fremont F. Ellis, a famous landscape painter, was born in Virginia City, Montana in 1897. His father was a nomadic dentist and theater operator who traveled from the bustling gold towns of the American West to the metropolitan cities of the east. Ellis began painting at about twelve years of age although he had little art instruction or formal education of any kind. He had his first art showing in El Paso, Texas while still in his teens and was immediately praised for his work. However, his father thought he should have a profession along with his art work, so he studied optometry and had his own practice. But he wasn't happy with the life of a businessman, and after visiting friends in Santa Fe, New Mexico, he decided to make his home there and pursue his art work seriously. In 1921, Ellis joined with four other young painters in Santa Fe-Josef Bakos, Walter Mruk, Will Shuster, and Willard Nash-and together they founded an art society called "Los Cinco Pintores." They called themselves modern artists who encouraged freedom of expression and they made a definite impression on the art movement in Santa Fe. The group disbanded in 1926, but Ellis continued painting until his death in 1985. He showed his work actively in Santa Fe and Los Angeles, his unique impressionistic style earning him a large and dedicated following. His work is in many museum collections including the Museum of New Mexico, the El Paso Museum, the Art Institute in Lubbock, Texas, and the Stark Museum in Orange, Texas. Barbara Spencer Foster is a third generation native New Mexican. She grew up in the shadows of the Manzano Mountains where her ancestors had settled in the 1800s. She is the author of "Girl of the Manzanos," "Pecos Queen," "Fire in the Bosque," and "Santa Fe Woman," all from Sunstone Press.
