Описание: Vampires and Zombies! A double-threat monster feast in these twin tales of terror from the Hexagon library!
The first edition of What’s Race Got to Do With It (2015) addressed a moment when those working on the ground—activists, educators, young people, and families—were trying to understand and fight back against neoliberal education reforms (e.g., high stakes testing, school closings, and charter schools), while uncovering what race had to do with it all in the context of a supposedly post-racial United States. In the years since, the steady and grounded work of social movements has increased the visibility and critique of privatization, market-based reforms, and segregation; demonstrating the interlocking connections between racism and capitalism. In this period we have also seen an intensified attack on public education (alongside other public infrastructures) and a return to a more overt "racism as we knew it." This new edition of What’s Race continues the examination of neoliberal education reforms as they are being rolled back (or reworked) to track the changes and continuities of recent years—revealing the ways in which market-driven education reforms work with and through race—and share grassroots stories of resistance to these reforms. It is hoped that this new edition will continue to sharpen readers’ analyses concerning what we are working to defend and what we are working to transform, and provides a guide to action that emboldens the collective struggle for justice.

Описание:
Inextinguishable is a book written for the servant of Jesus Christ who longs to be full of God's fire in an age where much of the subject of following Christ through "thick and thin" if faltering. In this book, David Mayorga visits three subject regarding God's fire: 1) First, He speaks of God as being the burning fire Himself. God's desire is to impart this fire to His followers who long for it; 2) Secondly, the author lists several Bible characters who were given God's fire or had the opportunity to get this fire, but failed to recieve it and/or those who did recieved it, failed to cultivate it and keep it burning. Lastly, David Mayorga outlines the life of the Apostle Paul as a man of fire. Though Paul was tried and tested, he continued burning till the end of his carreer. He purposed in his heart to "count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus," and burned for Christ his Lord, till his dying days.
The purpose of this book is to challenge the follower of Christ to get acquainted with God's fire in his or her life. After that the fire of God has been deposited, the follower of Jesus Christ must learn how to cultivate it and maintain it with a bright flame. We can learn how to walk in His fire through all the challenges of life, by seeing the Apostle Paul as our great example and becoming imitators of him. Enjoy.

Описание: The link between residential segregation and racial inequality is well established, so it would seem that greater equality would prevail in integrated neighborhoods. But as Sarah Mayorga-Gallo argues, multiethnic and mixed-income neighborhoods still harbor the signs of continued, systemic racial inequalities. Drawing on deep ethnographic and other innovative research from "Creekside Park," a pseudonymous suburban community in Durham, North Carolina, Mayorga-Gallo demonstrates that the proximity of white, African American, and Latino neighbors does not ensure equity; rather, proximity and equity are in fact subject to structural-level processes of stratification. Behind the White Picket Fence shows how contemporary understandings of diversity are not necessarily rooted in equity or justice but instead can reinforce white homeowners' race and class privilege; ultimately, good intentions and a desire for diversity alone do not challenge structural racial, social, and economic disparities. This book makes a compelling case for how power and privilege are reproduced in daily interactions and calls on readers to question commonsense understandings of space and inequality in order to better understand how race functions in multiethnic America.
