Electromagnetic Fields and Waves: Microwave and Mmwave Engineering with Generalized Macroscopic Electrodynamics, Nefyodov Eugene I., Smolskiy Sergey M.
Описание: Computational Electrodynamics is a vast research field with a wide variety of tools. In physics the principle of gauge invariance plays a pivotal role as a guide towards a sensible formulation of the laws of nature as well as computing the properties of elementary particles using the lattice formulation of gauge theories, yet the gauge principle has played a much less pronounced role in performing computation in classical electrodynamics. In this work the author will demonstrate that starting from the gauge formulation of electrodynamics using the electromagnetic potentials leads to computational tools that can very well compete with the conventional electromagnetic field-based tools. Once accepting the formulation based on gauge fields, the computational code is very transparent due to the mimetic mapping of the electrodynamic variables on the computational grid. Although the illustrations and applications originate from microelectronic engineering, the method has a much larger range of applicability. Therefore this book is of interest to everyone having interest in computational electrodynamics. The volume is organized as follows: In part 1, a detailed introduction and overview is presented of the Maxwell equations as well as the derivation of the current and charge densities is different materials. Semiconductors are responding to electromagnetic fields in a non-linear way and the induced complications are discussed in detail. In part 2, the transition of the theory of electrodynamics, using the gauge potentials, to a formulation that can serve as the gateway to computational code is presented. In part 3, the feasibility and success of the methods of part 2 are demonstrated by a collection of microelectronic device designs. Part 4 focuses on a set of topical themes that brings the reader to the frontier of research in building the simulation tools using the gauge principle in computational electrodynamics.Technical topics discussed in the book include:Electromagnetic Field EquationsConstitutive RelationsDiscretization and Numerical AnalysisFinite Element and Finite Volume MethodsDesign of Integrated Passive Components.
Due to a huge concentration of electromagnetic fields and eddy currents, large power equipment and systems are prone to crushing forces, overheating, and overloading. Luckily, power failures due to disturbances like these can be predicted and/or prevented.
Based on the success of internationally acclaimed computer programs, such as the authors' own RNM-3D, Engineering Electrodynamics: Electric Machine, Transformer, and Power Equipment Design explains how to implement industry-proven modeling and design techniques to solve complex electromagnetic phenomena. Considering recent progress in magnetic and superconducting materials as well as modern methods of mechatronics and computer science, this theory- and application-driven book:
Analyzes materials structure and 3D fields, taking into account magnetic and thermal nonlinearities
Supplies necessary physical insight for the creation of electromagnetic and electromechanical high power equipment models
Describes parameters for electromagnetic calculation of the structural parts of transformers, electric machines, apparatuses, and other electrical equipment
Covers power frequency 50-60 Hz (worldwide and US) equipment applications
Includes examples, case studies, and homework problems
Engineering Electrodynamics: Electric Machine, Transformer, and Power Equipment Design provides engineers, students, and academia with a thorough understanding of the physics, principles, modeling, and design of contemporary industrial devices.

Описание:
This book presents a sequential representation of the electrodynamics of conducting media with dispersion. In addition to the general electrodynamic formalism, specific media such as classical nondegenerate plasma, degenerate metal plasma, magnetoactive anisotropic plasma, atomic hydrogen gas, semiconductors, and molecular crystals are considered.
The book draws on such classics as Electrodynamics of plasma and plasma-like media (Silin and Rukhadze) and Principles of Plasma Electrodynamics (Alexandrov, Bogdankevich, and Rukhadze), yet its outlook is thoroughly modern—both in content and presentation, including both classical and quantum approaches. It explores such recent topics as surface waves on thin layers of plasma and non-dispersive media, the permittivity of a monatomic gas with spatial dispersion, and current-driven instabilities in plasma, among many others. Each chapter is equipped with a large number of problems with solutions that have academic and practical importance. This book will appeal to graduate students as well as researchers and other professionals due to its straight-forward yet thorough treatment of electrodynamics in conducting dispersive media.
