Описание: Albert James Pickett`s History of Alabama, and Incidentally of Georgia and Mississippi, from the Earliest Period first appeared in Montgomery bookstores in September 1851. This new edition is the first to provide general readers and scholars with a readily available hardbound, fully indexed, and annotated version of Pickett`s History.
The Battle of Gettysburg, in early July, 1863, began promisingly for Lee and his Confederate forces, but as the fighting progressed it became clear that in a pounding match where Meade's Union force remained nailed defensively to high ground it would take a master stroke on Lee's part for the Confederates to prevail. Attacks to turn the Union flank had failed leading to a decision to launch a concerted direct assault of converging regiments on the centre of the Union line, which was commanded by Hancock. The initiative seemed born of desperation and the Confederate general, Longstreet had little faith in its success. The attacking Confederates were compelled to march for over a mile across a wide expanse of open ground, under the most punishing enemy fire, before they could reach Union lines. Nevertheless, upon the order, the ranks of grey and butternut stepped bravely forward, under the commands of Pickett, Trimble and Pettigrew, and despite suffering fearful losses, some of them actually broke into the lines of the soldiers in blue. There they were killed, captured or faltered and fell back in retreat. 'Pickett's Charge', as this valiant debacle came to be known, was set upon a task almost certain to fail. Only the courage of those who charged is beyond question, for this attack has been the subject of intensive debate and much controversy. This Leonaur book on this pivotal action contains several essential perspectives by different authors and includes many maps and illustrations.
Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.
Описание: Immigration Stories-A Fight for Justice and Freedom
If you liked The Book of Awesome Women by Becca Anderson, Dear America by Jose Antonio Vargas, or American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures by America Ferrara, you'll love Unsung America.
Positive and heroic stories. Far too often, immigrants are demonized and scapegoated, when they should be celebrated as heroes and revolutionaries. This book strings together both triumphant and painful tales of immigrants who blazed trails and broke barriers in the fight for fundamental human rights.
Unsung Heroes. These are ordinary people who have used their own stories on the fight for citizenship to illustrate their triumphs and trials as immigrants in a new land. Each uses a different strategy and tactics; what works for one does not work for another. They all have one thing in common, however--a desire for racial and social justice.
Unsung America will change the way you view immigrants and refugees. Prerna Lal, who penned Unsung America, is a naturalized United States citizen, born and raised in the Fiji Islands with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area. A clinical law professor, Lal is a frequent writer on immigration, racial justice, sexual orientation, and how these forces intersect. She is a graduate of The George Washington University Law School, and works as an immigration attorney.
In this celebratory book, you will discover:
Powerful theories of social change, and how what seems radical in one era can be normalized in the next
How the fight for citizenship is interconnected and interrelated to other struggles such as the civil rights movement and the LGBT movement
Stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things and how you, too, can be a force for good in the world

This is a Scripture-honoring novel of action-adventure, romance, and real-life struggle. It features a culture of relationships tested through war, love, weakness, and triumph. These heroes are not outwardly exceptional-they fail, they don't know what to do, they become angry, and some are beaten down by others-but they are used in amazing, life-changing ways that rise to move even the heart of the king
Go with them into the unknown of far-off exploration. Face the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. Meet the Black Sheik, the old shepherd, and the mysterious "Scrolls of Legacy." Will the love for a lost young wife ever be felt again? Will a family be split apart by adversity?
Set in the land of Israel around 1000 BC, it is both a link to our faith's roots, and an understanding of how scriptural principles are timeless.
