Описание:
If you're wondering how Golden Rod, Ragwort, and Devil's Bit got their names, how Dandelion can be used to treat liver disorders, or how Horseradish staves off scurvy, look no further than A Modern Herbal. This modern reboot of the medieval herbal improves upon its predecessors with meticulously researched scientific support and pages of recorded folklore about each entry. Encyclopedic in coverage, A Modern Herbal covers every herb, grass, shrub, fungus, and tree you can think of, from to Abscess Root to Zedoary.
Building on the traditional herbal, which combines folklore about the plants, their medicinal properties, anatomies, and botanical classification, Mrs. Greive has compiled a one-of-a-kind encyclopedia of more than 800 varieties of plants. The entries are neatly and thoroughly filled with seemingly boundless amounts of information on cultivation methods, chemical constituents, dosages, preparations of extracts, tinctures, and foods, as well as cosmetic properties, and beautiful, detailed illustrations. Also included are hundreds of recipes for lotions, ointments, sauces, wines, vinegars, brandies, and prescriptions for tonics and liniments to combat just about any ailment.
"There is not one page of this enchanting book which does not contain something to interest the common reader as well as the serious student...regarded simply as a history of flowers, it adds to the joys of the country." - B.E. Todd, Spectator

Описание: Microsoft Dynamics GP is a popular enterprise resource planning (ERP) application used by tens of thousands of sites around the world to keep the accounting, financial, distribution and manufacturing functions running day in and day out. To do this Microsoft Dynamics GP was accessed via client software installed directly on the user's computer, or a terminal server. Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 saw the introduction of a second type of client with which Microsoft Dynamics GP could be accessed; the web client. The installation of the web client is a little more complex than that of the classic desktop client. This book provides guidance for the implementation of the Microsoft Dynamics GP web client with step-by-step guides, illustrations and links to useful resources. Who This Book Is For This book is aimed at Dynamics GP users and partners who intend to implement the web client for Microsoft Dynamics GP for individual clients; much of the process for installing a multi-tenant deployment is the same as the scale-out one, but this book is specifically focusing on the scale-out deployment. This book assumes you have a knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory for creating users and groups, IIS and application deployments. A basic knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP is also required. What This Book Covers This book covers the scale-out deployment of the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 web client, from prerequisites through installation to logging in, using and managing. An upgrade of the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 SP2 web client to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 is covered, before closing with a look at troubleshooting problems.
Описание: Ezra Pound's definition of an epic as "a poem containing history" raises questions: how can a poem "contain" history? And if it can, does it help us to think about history in ways that conventional historiography cannot? Poems Containing History: Twentieth-Century American Poetry's Engagement with the Past, by Gary Grieve-Carlson, argues that twentieth-century American poetry has "contained" and helped its readers to think about history in a variety of provocative and powerful ways. Tracing the discussion of the relationship between poetry and history from Aristotle's Poetics to Norman Mailer's The Armies of the Night and Hayden White's Metahistory, the book shows that even as history evolves into a professional, academic discipline in the late nineteenth century, and as its practitioners emphasize the scientific aspects of their work and minimize its literary aspects, twentieth-century American poets continue to take history as the subject of their major poems. Sometimes they endorse the views of mainstream historians, as Stephen Vincent Ben t does in John Brown's Body, but more often they challenge them, as do Robert Penn Warren in Brother to Dragons, Ezra Pound in The Cantos, or Charles Olson in The Maximus Poems. In Conquistador, Archibald MacLeish illustrates Aristotle's claim that poetry tells more philosophical truths about the past than history does, while in Paterson, William Carlos Williams develops a Nietzschean suspicion of history's value. Three major American poets--T. S. Eliot in Four Quartets, Hart Crane in The Bridge, and Carolyn Forch in The Angel of History--present different challenges to professional historiography's assumption that the past is best understood in strictly material terms. Poems Containing History devotes chapters to each of these poets and offers a clear sense of the seriousness with which American poetry has engaged the past, as well as the great variety of those engagements.
