Описание: The Habits of Racism argues that the conceptual reworking of habit as bodily orientation helps to identify the more subtle but fundamental workings of racism, exploring what the lived experience of racism and racialization teaches about the nature of the embodied and socially-situated being.

Описание: Coal preparation plants are designed to clean impurities, such as soil, sand and rock from coal, to ready it for transportation to power plants and coking facilities for use in steel processing. Monitoring flow through the coal preparation process can be difficult as the coal is abrasive and can cause inaccuracies and maintenance issues for intrusive instruments. A Coal preparation plant generally use gravity process equipment to separate the refuse from the product (coal). Coal has a specific gravity between 1.35 and 1.5, while the refuse rock has a Specific Gravity of 2.1 to 2.3. Heavy Media is the most popular method of cleaning coarse sizes. Heavy media cyclones are being used more often for fines size fractions. Flotation is generally used to clean the -28 mesh size fraction, although spirals and heavy media cyclones have shown success in cleaning down to 100 mesh coal feed. Spirals are generally used for middling sizes. Modular Coal Preparation Plants (MCPP) prepares coal for a cleaner burning process, enhanced calorific value and cleaner emissions. MCPPs consist of several modules including a raw coal preparation (crushing and screening station), a coal feed and washing module (jigging and Heavy Medium cyclone) as well as a dewatering module. Designing the Coal Preparation Plant of the Future provides comprehensive overview on several current and future challenges that must be considered in the design and operation of coal preparation facilities. These challenges dictate that we constantly strive to improve plant. Coal Preparation Engineers are meeting this challenge of the future by designing large modem environmentally acceptable plants.

Описание: Minerals, metals and sustainability inspects the utilisation of minerals and mineral products and the consequences for sustainability of the consumption of finite mineral resources and the wastes related with their manufacture and usage. It delivers a multi-disciplinary approach that incorporates the physical and earth sciences with the social sciences, ecology and economics. Nowadays, the use of minerals is common in everyday items such as toothpaste, eyeglasses and some life saving hospital equipments. With the growth of the mining industry and development of advanced extraction techniques, more areas are being identified and selected for extraction of minerals. Abandoned land mines, mining in open areas, drilling for all- all these activities, if unplanned and not environmently-friendly also affects human health. This has led to concerns regarding the impact that mining has on the ecological health of the region and the people living in the area. Different methods of mining have different impacts on the environment. Sustainable development is the need of the hour if we are to provide a secure future for future generations. The book should be of great valuable for practising engineers, geologists and scientists; professionals in government service in areas such as resources, environment and sustainability; and non-technical professionals working in the minerals industry or in sectors servicing the minerals industry.

Описание:
In most post-conflict countries nongovernmental organizations are everywhere, but their presence is misunderstood. In The NGO Game Patrice McMahon investigates the unintended outcomes of what she calls the NGO boom in Bosnia and Kosovo. Using her years of fieldwork and interviews, McMahon argues that when international actors try to rebuild and reconstruct post-conflict countries, they often rely on and look to NGOs. Although policymakers and scholars tend to accept and even celebrate NGO involvement in post-conflict and transitioning countries, they rarely examine why NGOs have become so popular, what NGOs do, or how they affect everyday life. After a conflict, international NGOs descend on a country, local NGOs pop up everywhere, and money and energy flow into strengthening the organizations. In time, the frenzy of activity slows, the internationals go home, local groups disappear from sight, and the NGO boom goes bust. Instead of peace and stability, the embrace of NGOs and the enthusiasm for international peacebuilding turns to disappointment, if not cynicism. For many in the Balkans and other post-conflict environments, NGOs are not an aid to building a lasting peace but are part of the problem because of the turmoil they foster during their life cycles in a given country. The NGO Game will be useful to practitioners and policymakers interested in improving peacebuilding, the role of NGOs in peace and development, and the sustainability of local initiatives in post-conflict countries.

Описание: The diamond is the hardest natural substance known. It is found in a type of igneous rock known as kimberlite. The diamond itself is essentially a chain of carbon atoms that have crystallised. The stones unique hardness is a result of the densely concentrated nature of the carbon chains. Like other igneous rocks, kimberlite was formed over the course of thousands of years by volcanic action that occurred during the formation of the earths crust. It is thought that diamonds were first discovered in India about 6,000 years ago in the riverbeds of the region. India was the only known source of the rocks for over a thousand years, until they were unearthed in Borneo around A.D. 600. During the Middle Ages, the diamond was overshadowed by some of the more colourful gems like the ruby and emerald. In the 18th century, diamond deposits were discovered in Brazil in small quantities, and later in Australia, Russia, and the United States. Block caving is the most commonly used method in excavating diamonds from kimberlite deposits. This method offers the highest yield and thus is the most cost effective. In the crushing operation, which occurs in the below-ground mining facilities, large chunks of kimberlite are broken up into more easily transportable segments. Diamonds will continue to be used in industry and hightechnology enterprises, but synthetically produced facsimiles -- first manufactured in 1953 -- may accomplish some of the tasks originally the exclusive province of the real stone. These "manufactured" gems have the same properties of hardness and durability, and while they will never be as popular as the real diamond for adomment purposes, they are well suited for industrial applications. This book provides comprehensive overview on origin, exploration, and history of diamond.
