Описание:

Its time for bed, and Dexter and his mom are following their bedtime routine. Dexter loves this special moment with his mom as he snuggles in the crook of her arm to listen to her read stories. Of course, to delay the inevitable sleep, he chooses the four longest books in his library.

But mom doesnt read the words on the page. She tells her son a story of Dr. Dexter Scott, a world-famous paleontologist who has discovered many great dinosaur fossils and is on his way to unearthing a new dinosaur. The doctor won many awards, but most of all, he followed his dreams and is happy doing what he loves.

A picture book for children, Dexters Dreams shows kids they have the ability to be great and to do anything and everything they dream.

Описание:

Dawn Escoto has always loved poetry. She grew up on it--hearing readings as well as reading, memorizing, and writing poetry. Her mother taught her to appreciate the nineteenth-century American poets, especially Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

As an adult, Emily Dickinson became one of her favorites. But Escoto doesn't really copy any particular poet; instead, she studies techniques from various writers and has created her own voice. Poetry runs through her veins. All of her siblings, along with cousins on both sides of the family, write poetry. She has published three volumes of poems on endangered species, under the title Going, Going, Gone.

Her journey as a poet began at age eight and has continued throughout her life. Since 1994 she has written over forty collections, with emphases on hymns; psalms set to music; words of encouragement; celebration of holidays and special occasions; synopses of sermons; tributes to heroes, family, and friends; endangered animals; flowers and birds; limericks; and more. This volume of poems contains examples from Garlands of Grace, Millennial Messages, Divine Sentiments, Then Sings My Soul, New Testament Psalms, New Wine, Old Wineskins, Children's Choruses, and Tributes to Courage. It is her hope that these poems will draw you heavenward in worship of the One she exalts in her life and in her writings.

Описание:

Be prepared to be embraced with words, images, stories, examples, experiences, and a love for teaching in community with young people toward social and cultural justice.-Django Paris

As middle and high school teachers, we know that students begin to develop racial identities and ideologies as early as preschool. By the time they reach us, there is much socializing and learning that needs to be undone. Textured Teaching is a way to seamlessly embed the social justice work that is needed to undo; to begin to make things right.

With Culturally Sustaining Practice as its foundation, Textured Teaching helps secondary teachers in any school setting stop wondering and guessing how to implement teaching and learning that leads to social justice. Lorena shares her framework for creating a classroom environment that is highly rigorous and engaging, and that reflects the core traits of Textured Teaching: student-driven, community centered, interdisciplinary, experiential, and flexible. Throughout the book, Lorena shares lesson design strategies that build traditional literacy skills while supporting students in developing their social justice skills at the same time. The actionable strategies Lorena uses to bring Textured Teaching values to life illuminate what is possible when we welcome all types of texts, all types of voices, and all forms of expression into the classroom.
