Описание:

Tenderly poignant, wise and affecting. A beautifully stirring reflection on the joys and challenges of fatherhood. Kirkus

In an epic road trip with his Little League son, a divorced dads eight-ballpark journey tries to rescue his fatherhood--and learn how his dads suicide might not doom him to repeat a fathers mistakes.

The rarest outcome in sports is baseballs perfect game. One team does everything right, forcing the other to accomplish nothing. In 150 years of baseball, there have only been 23. Perfect is nearly impossible. As a divorced dad, Ron was trying to redeem his fatherhood with a road trip with his son. Their odyssey of crossing eight states in a rented convertible was supposed to salvage Rons life as an unsure father. Custody fatherhood demoted him to the second team--he was certain of that. One sign of salvation came unbidden in an unscheduled tenth game.

Thousands of miles and dozens of innings delivered a discovery: a drive toward perfect fatherhood has a destination that cannot be found on any map. Its the tale of an eleven-day, nine-game trip -- and how a fathers plans for perfection delivered things deeper than scores, miles, and smiles. Something magical and rare appeared at the end, in his heart as well as on a diamond.

Part baseball, part fatherhood, and all boyhood, Stealing Home plays out the mystery of love and family. Fueled by his determination to become a better dad, Seybolds journey becomes a quest to reconcile the past and his future. The magic lies in the storytelling that travels the road to something perfect. Donna Johnson, author of Holy Ghost Girl: A Memoir

Authentic, emotional, and brave, Stealing Home is a timeless journey of the universal struggle to rise above the past. Its a beautiful testament to the power of a fathers love. Claire Ashby, NY Times bestselling author of When You Make It Home

A beautifully written, touching memoir about family dynamics revealed in the bonding of father and son. Larry Brill, author of award-winning romance Deja Vu All Over Again

Five Stars. Its so much more than a memoir. Its a grand road trip story as well as a real-life family saga. At its heart, Stealing Home is the consummate baseball story. An enthralling memoir, most highly recommended. Readers Favorite

Their odyssey of crossing eight states in a rented convertible was supposed to salvage Ron's life as an unsure father. Custody fatherhood demoted him to the second team -- he was certain of that. One sign of salvation came unbidden in an unscheduled tenth game.

Adventures and revelations of the road lead to a deeper reckoning of how Ron's father failed enough at his fatherhood to take his own life. Thousands of miles and dozens of innings delivered a discovery: a drive toward perfect fatherhood has a destination that cannot be found on any map. It's the tale of an eleven-day, nine-game trip -- and how a father's plans for perfection delivered things deeper than scores, miles, and smiles. You don't have to drive 3,147 miles to find your way to fatherhood. When Ron did, something magical and rare appeared at the end, in his heart as well as on a diamond.

Описание:

Memoirs of FVG & Trudie offers a heart-warming and fascinating stroll through the history of the iconic Forest View Gardens in Cincinnati and its talented owner, Trudie Klos Russell Seybold. Trudie leads us from post-World War I Germany to the charming "chicken-dinner restaurant" her parents purchased in 1939. Renamed Forest View Gardens in 1941, and at the urging of friend and patron Dr. William Huebener, the restaurant took on the Bavarian flair many Cincinnati-area residents will remember.

As an adult, Trudie's talents and her love of opera took her far from Cincinnati. Trudie taught music and sang - and shared her mother's flair for cooking - all across the country before returning to Forest View Gardens when her parents retired. Soon the restaurant featured a singing staff drafted from her beloved University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Within a short time, she and her new husband Kurt Seybold began holding their popular opera "galas" at the restaurant as well.

Forest View Gardens closed its doors in 2001, but the Conservatory's Seybold/Russell Scholarship established by Trudie and Kurt in 1987 continues to nurture the next generation of musicians. With Memoirs of FVG & Trudie, the memories - and the music - live on.

A portion of all book sales will be donated to University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music in memory of Trudie and Kurt.
