Описание:

This first book in my series introduces you to some of the soldiers returning to Willow Bend after the Civil War has ended. You will also meet soldiers who had never heard of this village but ended up here in unusual circumstances. More then anything, I wanted to write a series that would encourage people and give them hope. Some of my characters have turned their heartache and tragedy around and will end up helping and comforting others.

Many of the soldiers returned with physical and emotional wounds, much like todays soldiers, except they didnt have the medical knowledge and support groups that we have now. One soldier in particular, Franklin, had a cannon explode while he was lighting it and his face was badly burned and scarred. He believes at first that no one will ever want to be around him, so he leaves the battlefield, having no particular destination and no one to welcome him home.

Описание:

Willow Bend: Hearts Are Being Mended, is the second book of my series, about how lives changed when the Civil War ended. The small village of Willow Bend is the home of several unique characters. Some are very loving and kind and others are humorous, and a few have anger that they need to let go of. I try to keep a balance of suspense, romance, humor and heart-warming scenes in this series. I've been very pleased to hear that some of my readers are men, who tell me that they really enjoyed my first book and are waiting for this one. One of the characters in my first book, Isaac, has a bigger part in this book because I created this character from a young boy in my neighborhood who was a dear friend of mine. He passed away a few months ago and I have dedicated this book to him.

I think about these characters constantly and keep trying to improve my writing to make them more interesting. I created Franklin, whose face was burned and scarred when a civil war cannon exploded while he was attempting to light it. He turned out to be one of my readers favorite characters. I served in the Air Force about a hundred years ago, 1963-1967, so I've always had a heart for soldiers. I've been told that Sarah is a lot like me. It wasn't intentional, but it just might be true. When I start writing, my fingers are flying over the keyboard and I'm not thinking about anything except getting the words from my thoughts to the computer.

Описание:

Max Farrier wanted to follow in the family footsteps and join the Navy once, but he's better off focusing on just surviving his last year of school and going to work in Aunt Donna's shop once it's over.

After an incident at school puts Max in the hospital, Aunt Donna's had enough. She signs him up for private lessons at a Muay Thai gym. Boxing--she says--will change everything.

But it's not boxing that starts to poke holes in Max's stupor--it's his sparring partner. Cian is fifty percent mouth, fifty percent attitude, and isn't afraid to go toe-to-toe with a bully in the street. Cian takes what he wants, and doesn't let anyone stand in his way--not even himself.

Описание:

Poetry arises from the search for sacred language that describes the awe and mystery of the real world. Deena Metzger is a contemporary poet who has aligned herself with this ancient tradition. This collection, that includes selections from her earlier books of poetry - Dark Milk, The Axis Mundi Poems, Looking For the Faces of God, A Sabbath Among the Ruins and Skin: Shadows/Silence draws on her life's work, more than forty years of devotion to the word, and aligns itself with such a quest for meaning that has increasing urgency because of the spiritual and political ruins of our time. It is no longer sufficient, she believes, for the poet to be an unacknowledged legislator of the world, for the committed poet is called to engage with full heart in the continuous activity of restoration on behalf of beauty, wisdom and the natural world. Here we meet the articulate voices of the otherwise silenced, the voices of the animals, the land and the elementals, rain, wind fire and earth, and our responsibility to them. This book combines a searing look at the horrors that we permit, the anguish of human cruelty, brutality, and indulgence, but carrying the fierce determination to live, act, and write on behalf of the soul in all its manifestations. In this collection, despair is acknowledged but not indulged, as Metzger engages in the meticulous task of reconstructing a world, informed by the past and history as language demands, but, extracting ourselves from its violence and caprices, looking toward a viable future and all its unexpected possibilities.
