Описание: The oil and gas industry is going through a major technological shift. This is particularly true of the Norwegian continental shelf where new work processes are being implemented based on digital infrastructure and information technology. The term Integrated Operations (IO) has been applied to this set of new processes. It is defined by the Centre for Integrated Operations in the Petroleum Industry as 'work processes and technology to make smarter decisions and better execution, enabled by ubiquitous real time data, collaborative techniques and access to multiple expertise'. It's claimed that IO is efficient, optimises exploration, reduces costs and improves safety performance. However, the picture is not as clear-cut as it may appear. On the one hand, the new work processes do not prevent major accidents: IO-related factors have been identified in recent events such as the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. On the other hand, IO technology provides improved decision-making support (such as access to real-time data and expertise), which can reduce human and material losses and damage to the environment. Given these very different properties, it's vital that the industry has a detailed understanding of the benefits and drawbacks of IO, which this book sets out to do from a multidisciplinary point of view. It analyses Integrated Operations from the angles of statistics, management science, human factors and resilience engineering. These varied disciplines provide a multifaceted understanding of IO that better informs risk assessment practices, as well as explaining new techniques and methods and provides state-of-the-art guidance to risk assessment practitioners working in the oil and gas industry.
Описание: New Tools, Old Tasks explores how Integrated Operations (IO) will influence the safety of offshore drilling operations. The book is based on several years of practical experience combined with a research study on the safety of IO within the drilling domain. The overall objective of the book is to explore how safety can be understood in the change process of Integrated Operations, and to provide recommendations for how IO may be developed and implemented in a way that will benefit both safety and efficiency of the operations. A crucial thread throughout the book is that the understanding of normal work processes is key to understanding the conditions for safe operations. This is reflected in the book's structure and content; the nature of normal drilling operations is the focus, including how technologies and work processes are aligned to meet the dominating challenges of the industry (these challenges need not be directly linked to safety/risk). It is argued that the influence of IO on the safety of drilling operations depends more on how IO relates to the existing fundamental challenges of drilling operations than on the design and properties of the different IO technologies and work processes as such.

Описание: The essential guide to blending safety and health with effective and economical engineering Engineers have a moral, legal and ethical responsibility to protect the public in professional practice and in design of products, buildings, processes, equipment, work and workplaces. Most engineering degree programs place high importance on safety in engineering design and practice. The overall field of safety continues to change. Safety and health professional work demands higher levels of education. Roles of safety and health professionals have shifted from implementing safety details to overseeing strategies, methods and practices that achieve safety. The changing roles reflect the business practice of moving safety knowledge and skills deeper into organizations and workgroups. Safety and Health for Engineers, 3rd Edition is a comprehensive guide that helps engineers and safety and health practitioners reconcile safety and economic concerns using the latest cost–effective methods of ensuring safety in all facets of their work. It addresses the fundamentals of safety, legal aspects, hazard recognition and control, the human element of safety, and techniques for managing safety and risk in engineering decisions. The third edition features new topics such as Adapting to new safety concerns that arise from technology innovations Convergence of safety, health and environmental departments in many organizations Prevention through design Risk Analysis and Management and Safety Management Systems Written for engineers, plant managers, safety and health professionals, and students, Safety and Health for Engineers, Third Edition provides the information and tools you need to unite health and safety with economical engineering for safer technological solutions. The new edition continues to help engineers seeking roles in safety and health or expanding such roles. Roger L. Brauer Ph.D. was the first Recipient of the Roger Brauer Lifetime Achievement Award from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. He is a fellow in the American Society of Safety Engineers and 68th Inductee in the Safety and Health Hall of Fame International. Dr. Brauer was an adjunct professor of safety engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign for 20 years and a Principal investigator at the US–Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory in Champaign, Illinois for 20 years. He was also Executive Director of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals for 15 years.

Описание: Managing the Risks of Organizational Accidents introduced the notion of an `organizational accident`. These are rare but often calamitous events that occur in complex technological systems operating in hazardous circumstances. The book advocates that system safety should require the integration of systemic factors with individual mental skills.

Описание: Application of a sociotechnical systems approach to the road safety domain is lagging behind other safety domains. Benefits in reviewing driver error have begun to be recognized, but not yet transcended into countermeasures. This book covers the role that the sociotechnical system plays in the study, theory, and mitigation of driver distraction.

Описание:
Using data science in order to solve a problem requires a scientific mindset more than coding skills. Data Science for Supply Chain Forecasting, Second Edition contends that a true scientific method which includes experimentation, observation, and constant questioning must be applied to supply chains to achieve excellence in demand forecasting.
This second edition adds more than 45 percent extra content with four new chapters including an introduction to neural networks and the forecast value added framework. Part I focuses on statistical traditional models, Part II, on machine learning, and the all-new Part III discusses demand forecasting process management. The various chapters focus on both forecast models and new concepts such as metrics, underfitting, overfitting, outliers, feature optimization, and external demand drivers. The book is replete with do-it-yourself sections with implementations provided in Python (and Excel for the statistical models) to show the readers how to apply these models themselves.
This hands-on book, covering the entire range of forecasting--from the basics all the way to leading-edge models--will benefit supply chain practitioners, forecasters, and analysts looking to go the extra mile with demand forecasting.
Check out the webinar on the book, which discusses the general issues and challenges of demand forecasting. The panelists have extensive professional experience in this area, providing insights into best practices (process, models) and discussing how data science and machine learning impact those forecasts: https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rXjXcabW2s&t=2s
