Описание: Breaking Bad: Critical Essays on the Contexts, Politics, Style, and Reception of the Television Series, edited by David P. Pierson, explores the contexts, politics, and style of AMC's original series Breaking Bad. The book's first section locates and addresses the series from several contemporary social contexts, including neo-liberalism, its discourses and policies, the cultural obsession with the economy of time and its manipulation, and the epistemological principles and assumptions of Walter White's criminal alias Heisenberg. Section two investigates how the series characterizes and intersects with current cultural politics, such as male angst and the re-emergence of hegemonic masculinity, the complex portrayal of Latinos, and the depiction of physical and mental impairment and disability. The final section takes a close look at the series' distinctive visual, aural, and narrative stylistics. Under examination are Breaking Bad's unique visual style whereby image dominates sound, the distinct role and use of beginning teaser segments to disorient and enlighten audiences, the representation of geographic space and place, the position of narrative songs to complicate viewer identification, and the integral part that emotions play as a form of dramatic action in the series.

Описание: This book is the result of a "disturbing trend" within The Church (The body of true believers) to be increasingly molded by the world's concept of what Christians are to be like, especially in the area of love. There is far more to love than what we read in 1st Corinthians chapter 13. By ignoring the more difficult aspects of love requiring "teaching, correction, reproof, rebuke, and training in righteousness", as we are told The Word of God is good for, and are commanded to do in Scripture, we not only fail to love one another as Jesus loves us, but we fail to show Godly love to the world. If we are to use scripture to define "Love", we need to examine how God, Who is love, acts out His love; how He speaks about His love. When we ask, "what would Jesus do?" we need first to look at what Jesus did, not imagine what He would do, if we are to answer the question properly. Otherwise, we may wind up loving them into hell instead of into heaven. This book is written to introduce some, and re-introduce others, to that full spectrum, including the more difficult aspects of love, and how we should properly use them. Love according to how God, Who is love, tells us to love, and demonstrates by His actions, what love is, and His love for us. John Pierson has been a speaker, and participated in debates, group discussions, and conducted seminars and teachings in regard to cults, creation vs. evolution, Trinity, the deity of Christ, the Bible as the Word of God, aberrant theology, and many other topics across the country. He has also hosted a call in talk radio program called "The Christian War Room" which focused on Christian Apologetics.
