In Northern European countries the birth of Jesus is no longer the central theme of the Christmas displays.

Joaqu n Sorolla (born in Valencia 1863 - died in Cercedilla 1923) is one of the most successful Spanish painters ever. He was a genius in capturing the essence of the scene he was painting. He lived while photography was being invented and popularized. Some of his breathtaking seascapes show how he was familiar with and employed similar techniques as the photograph. His landscapes are also a great introduction to Spanish history.
Most of his paintings of boats and the sea capture the fishermen in Valencia, who fished from the beach. He has painted several masterpieces of the returning boats being pulled to the beach. The oxen used to pull the boats are captured so strong, so life like, with so much love. He also painted the waiting fisherwomen and the children happily playing. He painted scenes from the lives of the fishermen. Sorolla's paintings are extremely powerful and colorful and although he is usually labelled an impressionist, he is also often very naturalist and detailed. We mostly enjoyed the garden in situ.
The Green Jar therefore doubled as playground equipment for indoor activity.

Everyone ran down to the quay side to take pictures and video with their smartphones, when the dolphins appeared.
People were absolutely mesmerized by the dolphins. Here in Florida they love their wild animals and there were a lot of them on Treasure Island.
The birds we had most interaction with were the crows. They were smaller than we were used to, so they must be Fish Crows. They woke us up every morning as the sun rose, like roosters.
We tried the small toy crow we bought, with actual voice recording on them. The Fish Crows could understand the recorded message, but it was obviously a dialect.
We were amateur Europeans in this Florida paradise. We hope readers will forgive and correct any identifications we got wrong.
We only write about the species we actually encountered here, so don't look for alligators..
