Описание: The striking appearance of Luftwaffe`s Mistel Composite attack aircraft might seem ridiculous to modern eyes, but employed correctly, these original `fire and forget` weapons were devastatingly effective, as Allied sources testify. This book presents a comprehensive account of the Mistel units, from their design to development.
Описание: Explores the history, construction, armament and tactics used by PT boats, and the development of the Japanese Kamikaze force and the role it played in the World War II. The author also examines the American production juggernaut and why, despite America`s overwhelming production advantage, the Japanese believed that if their people possessed the proper will, they could still win the War.

Ready to Strike is the story of the only Royal Australian Air Force squadron to operate from airfields built immediately behind the front lines of the Normandy battlefield after the landings in France of June 1944.
453 (RAAF) Squadron was a 'for war only' formation. Ready to Strike covers the period from the Squadron's formation in May 1941 to the end of the Normandy campaign in August 1944.
This group of men were bonded by war and their love of flying. There are moments of excitement, pain, suffering, fear, boredom and laughter.
The experiences and operations of the squadron are presented in detail, using many quotes from the pilots and data from their logbooks. The book is fully referenced with chapter end notes and a bibliography.
The Australians were in Normandy too - this is their story.
Описание: This book is a personal story based on my experiences during my posting in TCDTS (upgraded to Tactics & Combat Development Establishment in Dec 1972) from Feb 1971 to Dec 1974. The primary source of information is my log book which for every pilot is a document of prime importance. It is filled every month from the Flight Authorisation book of the sqn and signed by the Flt Cdr and the Sqn Cdr. Ask any pilot and referring to his log book he will be able to tell you where he was and what he did on any date of his flying career. Essentially this is a first-hand account of the story of TCDTS air operations in the Indo-Pak war 1971, supported by as many sources as I could find. By no means have I attempted to tell the history of the Indo-Pak War 1971 as there is any amount of literature on the subject. Ours was a small but important part of the overall effort of the Indian Air Force which I hope makes an intriguing and exciting narrative. Teshter Master Bangalore

A must reference book for libraries in aviation communities, but it reads like a novel. Second Edition, Revised and Updated.

This title tells the fascinating story of World War II's forgotten strategic bombing campaign--the RAF's perilous, long-range missions, flying from English bases against the industry, cities, and dockyards of Mussolini's Italy.
Between June 1940 and August 1943, RAF Bomber Command undertook a little-known strategic bombing campaign in Europe. The target was Mussolini's Italy. This air campaign was a key part of the strategic policy of Britain from 1940 to 1943, which aimed at securing Italy's early surrender. However, it posed unique challenges, not least of which was Italy's natural defenses of distance and the Alps. The bombing campaign against Italy can be divided into a number of phases, with each one having its own specific goals such as affecting Italian war production or hindering the Italian Navy's war in the Mediterranean. However, each also furthered the ultimate aim of forcing Italy's final capitulation, demonstrating that the tactic of area-bombing was not just about the destruction of an enemy's cities, as it could also fulfill wider strategic and political objectives. Indeed, the intensity and frequency of attack was greatly controlled, and the heavy bombing of Italy was only ever sanctioned by Britain's civilian war leaders to achieve both military and political goals. The issue of target-selection was also subject to a similar political restriction; cities and ports like Milan, Turin, Genoa, and La Spezia were sanctioned under an official Directive, but other places, such as Verona, Venice, Florence and, above all, Rome, remained off-limits. This fascinating title from British strategic and military history expert Dr Richard Worrall explores the political, motivational and strategic challenges of the campaign in full. His thorough analysis and meticulous research is supported by specially commissioned artwork, maps, and contemporary photographs.
Описание: This first of two volumes on de Havilland’s “Wooden Wonder” covers the night-fighter and fighter-bomber variants of the deadly Mosquito. The development of the multirole Mosquito, from its original bomber and photoreconnaissance operational function to that of a night-fighter and fighter-bomber configuration, was initiated by the latent threat of a renewal of the 1940–41 “Blitz.” Over the ensuing years of WWII, the Mosquito attacked the enemy with sorties across a 24-hour time span, challenging the German Nachtjagd with aerial interceptions, as well as attacks on Luftwaffe airfields. Pinpoint assaults on specialist targets was another aspect of Mosquito fighter-bomber operations, whose destructive effect on the Axis was constantly felt. Also covered are the Mosquitos operations with the Fleet Air Arm, as well as postwar use. Part of the Legends of Warfare series.
