Описание:

This is the true story of a youthful believer who vowed not to defile himself with women until the Lord led him to his future wife. He put his faith into action by first challenging himself in three ways and then asked God to beat it. You will marvel at how God also responded positively, concretely meeting his demands beyond his dreams. However, this did not come on a silver platter. He had to battle seduction, sexual temptations, doubt and uncertainty until his 35th birthday. What will you do when God finally reveals to you that a lady you have previously ruled out as impossible to relate to could be your wife? How would you reconcile your verdict with Gods? Read it all in this faith inspiring, Jesus devoted, God glorifying, non-fiction book. Aaron Appiah-Kubi is a writer, a poet and a researcher. He has worked in a number of organizations including the US Postal Service and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Currently, he works in the Rail Operations Department of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). He has also served in the US Army capping it with a tour in Afghanistan. He worked as a Teacher both in the classroom and at Baptist Sunday Schools in Ghana. He also worked at Royal City Company Ltd as Sales and Marketing Officer eventually rising to the General Managerial Position. He holds a Bsc. Admin. Degree from the University of Ghana and a Masters in Marketing from the KNUST School of Business. He also holds a Teachers Certificate from Mount Mary College where he met his wife Sylvia, a Motivational Speaker, with whom he shares a common call as Marriage and Youth Counselors. Between them they have three young children.

Описание: Africa is wealthy beneath the soil. Gold, diamonds, and other precious natural resources have, from ancient times, pulled people from all over the world to Africa, and yet the masses whose feet tread on such riches are being led on unknown paths with virtually nothing to show to the world but poverty. The worsening situation regarding poverty, unemployment, hunger, violence, illiteracy, disease, environmental degradation, etc. pose a security threat not only for the people of Africa but the entire world. Using Ghana-the first black African country led by Kwame Nkrumah to gain independence from colonial rule-as a case, Paths to Nowhere takes a look at the twist and turns of African countries in pursuit of the African dream. The books examine the obstacles in the path of independent African states from political freedom toward the ever-eluding economic freedom. Paths to Nowhere highlights the actions, inactions, systems, controls, powers, traditions, beliefs, assumptions, neglect, carelessness, and mistakes that have gradually eroded the confidence and expectations of the African and what it takes to reverse the order. The author draws from his political and administrative experience and practical knowledge of the sociopolitical terrain across the sub-Saharan Africa region to bring to the fore the overarching issues that are keeping the masses in Africa poor despite the rich resource base of the continent.

Описание: W. E. B. Du Bois never felt so at home as when he was a student in Berlin. Germany was the first place white people had treated him as an equal. But anti-Semitism was prevalent, and Du Bois` challenge, says Kwame Anthony Appiah, was to take the best of German intellectual life without its parochialism--to steal the fire without getting burned.

Adopting a interdisciplinary perspective, this book aims at the cliches and received ideas amid which talk of identity so often founders.

Описание: An indispensable collection that re-examines what it means to belong in the world.

"Where are you from?" The word cosmopolitan was first used as a way of evading exactly this question, when Diogenes the Cynic declared himself a "kosmo-polites," or citizen of the world. Cosmopolitanism displays two impulses--on the one hand, a detachment from one's place of origin, while on the other, an assertion of membership in some larger, more compelling collective.

Cosmopolitanisms works from the premise that there is more than one kind of cosmopolitanism, a plurality that insists cosmopolitanism can no longer stand as a single ideal against which all smaller loyalties and forms of belonging are judged. Rather, cosmopolitanism can be defined as one of many possible modes of life, thought, and sensibility that are produced when commitments and loyalties are multiple and overlapping. Featuring essays by major thinkers, including Homi Bhabha, Jean Bethke Elshtain, Thomas Bender, Leela Gandhi, Ato Quayson, and David Hollinger, among others, this collection asks what these plural cosmopolitanisms have in common, and how the cosmopolitanisms of the underprivileged might serve the ethical values and political causes that matter to their members. In addition to exploring the philosophy of Kant and the space of the city, this volume focuses on global justice, which asks what cosmopolitanism is good for, and on the global south, which has often been assumed to be an object of cosmopolitan scrutiny, not itself a source or origin of cosmopolitanism.

This book gives a new meaning to belonging and its ground-breaking arguments call for deep and necessary discussion and discourse.
