Описание: This book offers the first comprehensive review of parasitic Crustacea, which are among the most successful and diverse parasites. Starting with an introductory chapter, followed by an historic overview and topic-specific chapters, each presenting a different aspect of parasitic crustacean biology, it enables readers to gain a better understanding of how these parasites function and allows direct comparisons between the different parasitic crustacean groups. The authors also discuss, in depth, the adaptations and interactions that have made parasitic Crustacea as successful as they are today, covering topics ranging from the history of their discovery, their biodiversity, phylogeny, evolution and life strategies to their role as vectors, or hosts of other organisms, and their significance in ecological processes. Consisting of ten chapters from leading international experts in the field, this volume offers a one-stop resource for all researchers, lecturers, students and practitioners.
Дополнительное описание: Chapter 1. Introduction.- Chapter 2. History of Discovery of Parasitic Crustacea.- Chapter 3. Biodiversity and Taxonomy of the Parasitic Crustacea.- Chapter 4. Adaptations and Types of Crustacean Symbiotic Associations.- Chapter 5. Life Cycle and Life His

Описание:

November 2020 marks the 70th anniversary for the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases at Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NIPD) & Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research (CTDR), based in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. An external evaluation team from the World Health Organization reports that NIPD-CTDR is an important resources in the control and elimination programmes of parasitic diseases and tropical diseases in China (...) and have become a model for the developing world. Therefore, this volume covers the major achievements gained in the research and control of parasitic diseases in China, e.g. schistosomiasis, malaria, lymphatic filariasis, echinococcosis, visceral leishmaniasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, food-borne clonorchiasis, angiostrongyliasis, taeniasis and cysticercosis, etc. in 13 chapters. It also introduces the approaches for the institute development in better use the big data by analytic tools, improving surveillance-response systems at national and regional levels, and promoting the national parasitic resources center to support various research and control activities during last decades. Finally, the chapter on roadmap for parasitic diseases control in China from 2020 to 2030 is presented to echo WHO 2030 roadmap on neglected tropical diseases control.

Описание: The Zoological Guide to Crustacea opens by providing an update on the cave crustacean decapods from Mexico, because in the last thirty years several species have been described. Mexico has diverse cave environments according to cave origin, such as: karstic caves, volcano caves with freshwater habitats and anchialine caves with marine and brackish habitats. The following study focuses on a total of 2,700 Artemia franciscana collected at the Al Wathba Reserve between December 2017 and May 2018, which were examined for the presence of larval helminths by direct microscopy of glycerin mounted specimens. Of these, 341 (= 12.6%) specimens contained different species of the Hymenopepididae and Progynotaeniidae families. The penultimate study investigates whether the non-marine ostracod Heterocypris incongruens can detect and react to chemical compounds derived from a predator and from injured conspecifics. The closing study demonstrates the diversity of larval phases and their importance to lobster populations and fisheries, and provides a summary of larval developmental patterns and behaviors and their potential impacts on larval dispersal and lobster demographic connectivity.

Описание: Originally published in 1951, this book discusses the life cycles of various parasitic animals, as distinct from parasitic bacteria and plants. Key biological points are illustrated with references to parasitic animals that attack either humans or domestic animals for the purposes of clarity, and the effect of the host-parasite relationship on both parties is also examined.
