Описание: Beginning from the notion that self is constructed, contributors in Identity Landscapes: Contemplating Place and the Construction of Self are particularly interested in how relationships with place inform identity development. Locating identity inquiry in methodologies that encourage an explicit examination of self (e.g. autoethnography, self-study, autobiographical inquiry, a/r/tography, and reflexive inquiry), authors situate themselves epistemologically and geographically as they explore where place and identity converge. Through critical, qualitative, creative, and arts-integrated approaches, this collection aims to advance thought regarding the myriad ways that place informs identity development.
Описание: In recent years VR has become an increasingly prevalent platform for musical performance—Bjork, U2, Gorillaz, and even the LA Philharmonic all having taken to the virtual stage. These virtual encounters profoundly disrupt assumptions long held to be true of live music, undermining the necessity of physical and temporal co-presence, exploding our expectations of performance spaces, opening up new possibilities for performance involving avatars, and affording intimate encounters otherwise impossible in the physical world.
Proceeding through a series of case studies and analyses, and drawing in equal parts on the findings of musicology, performance, film, and media and cultural studies, Live from the Other Side of Nowhere begins to pry apart the conceptual challenges that this disruptive technology poses to our understanding of the "live" as an autonomous category of musical activity.

Описание:
The incarnation has made mystics of us all. What if we read the gospels as if that were true? In his book Contemplating Christ, Vincent Pizzuto offers an exploration of the interior life for modern contemplatives that is as beautiful as it is compelling. With an emphasis on the gospels and Christian mystical tradition, his book explores ancient themes in new and surprising ways. Drawing on his rich experience as an academic and priest, Pizzuto gradually unfolds the Christian mystery of deification to which the whole of biblical revelation and the Christian contemplative life are ordered: through the incarnation, we have all been made "other Christs" in the world.

A key figure in British and international art,Gilane Tawadros draws difference to the surface, recuperating it as a potentially radical frame through which to understand contemporary art and the everyday world. Swedish filmmaker Roy Anderssons celebrated and enigmatic film Songs from the Second Floor, his first feature film in twenty-five years, won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. The songs of the films title refer to Anderssons artistic ruminations on the state of mankind from his office on the second floor of Studio 24 in Stockholm. The film presents a series of forty-six tableauxlong, deep-focus shots with a still camera, mostly in studio settings, using older visual tricks such as trompe loeil. The tableaux showcase seemingly trivial tragicomic situations designed to provoke thoughts about existential guilt, broken relationships, and the failure of social institutions to treat people as human beings.
Lindqvist draws from interviews with Andersson and his team that provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the film was made and investigates its philosophical and artistic influences, providing a nuanced reading of a film that has both befuddled and entranced its viewers. This first book-length study in English of Anderssons work considers his aesthetic agenda and the unique methods that have become hallmarks of his filmmaking, as well as his firm belief in films revolutionary function as social critique.

The last several decades have witnessed an explosion of new empirical research into representations of the past and the conditions of their production, prompting claims that we have entered a new era in which the past has become more “present” than ever before. Contemplating Historical Consciousness brings together leading historians, ethnographers, and other scholars who give illuminating reflections on the aims, methods, and conceptualization of their own research as well as the successes and failures they have encountered. This rich collective account provides valuable perspectives for current scholars while charting new avenues for future research.
