Описание: In their contributions, the authors connect general philosophical reasoning about the foundational role of human dignity for human rights with more concrete demands as to how to deal with basic human needs and to end poverty. These legal and political arguments are based on recent rulings of regional courts and international human rights bodies. They discuss obligations that result from human rights and ask which institutions or corporations are responsible for their realisation.

Описание: In a bold new argument, Ulrika Carlsson grasps hold of the figure of Eros that haunts Soren Kierkegaard’s The Conceptof Irony, and for the first time, uses it as key to interpret that text and his second book, Either/Or. According to Carlsson, Kierkegaard adopts Plato’s idea of Eros as the fundamental force that drives humans in all their pursuits. For him, every existential stance—every way of living and relating to the outside world—is at heart a way of loving.
By intensely examining Kierkegaard’s erotic language, she also challenges the theory that the philosopher’s first two books have little common ground and reveals that they are in fact intimately connected by the central and explicit topic of love. In this text suitable for both students and the Kierkegaard specialist, Carlsson claims that despite long-held beliefs about the disparity of his early work, his first two books both relate to love and Part I of Either/Or should be treated as the sequel to The Concept of Irony.
Описание: Many nurses have been providing not just clinical care; many also become scientists who are looking for a better practice. However, are nursing scientists just following methods or are we really promoting improvement for society? Also, why do we conduct research, and the respective analyses of data in the way we do? This book presents a critical reflection on nursing research practices, from a logical-philosophical perspective. With the results presented in this book I hope to contribute to the stimulus to critical (re)thinking about nursing research practices and their continuation presented here can provide the advancement of nursing as a science which will consequently provide social improvements instead of reproduction of methods and personal satisfaction.

Описание: Iraklis Ioannidis offers fresh, yet radical, philosophical insights into the much contested topic of altruism. Whereas the debate on altruism, since time immemorial, consists in trying to determine whether we are biologically altruistic or not, Ioannidis explores altruism otherwise. Following Nietzsche, he traces altruism to the phenomenon of promising or giving one’s word. His analysis provokes us to think that our possibility to exist cannot be realized without this event.
Ioannidis’ passage to altruism attempts to perform altruism while exploring it. By reversing the axioms of classical phenomenology, what he calls unbracketing, he welcomes in his writing space any discourse, any human expression which could help the philosophical investigation.
Описание: Absent from the popular assessment of existence by materialistic, Western philosophy is the intrinsic proportion and qualitative dimension of phenomena. That is to say, the significance of the unique characteristic nature of things is dismissed from pragmatic interpretation because physically elusive implications do not possess obviously tangible representation. Consequently, from a narrow perspective that considers principally the conspicuous appearance, essential significance is excluded from our assessment of life through lack of tangible evidence. Nevertheless, physically unrepresented qualities are known to exist through common experience, and every phenomenal appearance is found to possess a qualitative existence as well as material properties. Indeed, the qualitative particularity of a phenomenon is of enormous relevance because it reveals the intrinsic distinction as opposed to the merely superficial appearance of the physical periphery.
Описание: This multidisciplinary book brings the topics of rights, identity, and race together to examine what it means to be oppressed, how oppression works, and what we both as individuals and as a community can do about it, using the Iranian American community as a case study.
