Описание: Language: Swedish and English. We set out to see the iconic in places were others just laughed or gazed the other way. The result: a clash between global and local, truth and fake. Satirical imagery commenting on place in the 21st century. But somewhat the mocking images also turned out an ode to the local. The 108 pages photo book exhibits the whole artwork suite of collection no. one, and the true stories behind it. Images that can be viewed just as fantastic images, or be dived into with their diversity of motivation and depth, causing the mind to spin on the verge of vertigo. Food for thoughts. Iconic Ironic Places: What is a place? A term argued to perhaps be one of the most important in the 21st century. What is an iconic place in the 21st century? A trivial question, or is it? We can escape places, but only to find ourselves in another one. As human beings or virtual avatars we need to find a place. This pop-photo-art-project explores the question of iconic places in a playful, fascinating and provocative way. With satirical and serious intent, the idea of the iconic is visually aestheticised by setting it up next to the ironic on a razors edge. The images challenges the question of whom or what decides the becoming of something iconic. An axiom? Or influenced by our world's complex system of connections and flows of humans, ideas, economies, pop culture, social media and more. This book presents the first collection of iconic ironic places. Rumour has it the local metropolis of Sk vde (50.000 inhabitants), Sweden, carries a "big-town-complex". It sets the first backdrop for the world iconic places superimposed, and for the exploration of the iconic idea.

Описание:
Hegel's critique of Early German Romanticism and its theory of irony resonates to the core of his own philosophy in the same way that Plato's polemics with the Sophists have repercussions that go to the centre of his thought. The Anti-Romantic examines Hegel's critique of Fr. Schlegel, Novalis and Schleiermacher. Hegel rarely mentions these thinkers by name and the texts dealing with them often exist on the periphery of his oeuvre. Nonetheless, individually, they represent embodiments of specific forms of irony: Schlegel, a form of critical individuality; Novalis, a form of sentimental nihilism; Schleiermacher, a monstrous hybrid of the other two.
The strength of Hegel's polemical approach to these authors shows how irony itself represents for him a persistent threat to his own idea of systematic Science. This is so, we discover, because Romantic irony is more than a rival ideology; it is an actual form of discourse, one whose performative objectivity interferes with the objectivity of Hegel's own logos. Thus, Hegel's critique of irony allows us to reciprocally uncover a Hegelian theory of scientific discourse. Far from seeing irony as a form of consciousness overcome by Spirit, Hegel sees it as having become a pressing feature of his own contemporary world, as witnessed in the popularity of his Berlin rival, Schleiermacher. Finally, to the extent that ironic discourse seems, for Hegel, to imply a certain world beyond his own notion of modernity, we are left with the hypothesis that Hegel's critique of irony may be viewed as a critique of post-modernity.
"But many who are first will be last, and the last first."
--Matthew 19:30
The Bible is full of ironic situations in which God overturns the world's wisdom by doing the opposite of what is expected--people are punished by their own sin, the persecution of the church is the catalyst for its growth, Paul claims to have strength through weakness, and more. In this book, biblical scholar G. K. Beale explores God's pattern of divine irony in both judgment and salvation, finding its greatest expression in Jesus's triumph over death through death on a cross. Unpacking this pattern throughout redemptive history, Beale shows us how God often uses what is seemingly weak and foolish to underscore his own strength and power in the lives of his people today.

Описание: Stephen Frears has a career approaching over half-a-century, directing films of astonishing variety, beauty, and daring, and yet many often have trouble remembering his name. The Ironic Filmmaking of Stephen Frears celebrates this great filmmaker, beginning with a short biography of Frears, general observations on unifying themes and styles in his oeuvre, and the characterization of his manner of directing. By focusing on 10 key films, Lesley Brill finds coherence in Frears' characteristic irony and in his concentration on many kinds of love. In movies such as My Beautiful Laundrette, Dangerous Liaisons, High Fidelity, The Queen, Philomena, and many others, Frears portrays widely varied situations and characters with a combination of insight, skepticism, and sympathy. He has the passionate, unjudgmental focus of an artist who stands simultaneously at a distance from his subjects and within their worlds. Through Frears' work is widely admired, Brill argues that he has attracted little scholarly writing because of a combination of the diffidence of his self-presentation and the difficulty of explicating the complex ideas and characters of his films. The Ironic Filmmaking of Stephen Frears is meant to inspire others to further examine his films individually and his career as a whole.
