The association of in-school bullying with suicidal behavior in school-aged youth, with a specific interest in African American adolescents is examined, in addition to protective factors against suicidal behavior in adolescents. The cross-racial interaction of learners in a former "whites only" high school in South Africa is explored in an effort to understand their day-to-day life over a period of six months. Data were obtained from several sources including interviews with students, teachers, and administrators, focus group discussions, and observations.
