Frantz Fanon's (1925-61) political impact is difficult to overestimate. His anti-colonialist, philosophical and revolutionary writings were among the most influential of the twentieth century. The political essays, articles and notes published in Alienation and Freedom: The Political Writings cover the most active period of his life, from the publication of White Skin, Black Masks in 1952 - when he was twenty-eight years old - to that of The Wretched of the Earth, the appearance of which in 1961 coincided, give or take a few days, with the date of his death from leukaemia at the age of thirty-six.
These political writings represent the sheer breadth and diversity of Fanon's work and this volume is original in that it contains his earliest works to survive, the plays The Drowning Eye and Parallel Hands, which expose an early preoccupation with identity and socio-political consciousness. His writings from Algeria are the most politicised however and are notable for their inflection with Fanon's support for the country's fight against French colonial rule. Indeed, as his role in treating both French and Algerian soldiers grew evermore untenable, his words became more impassioned and represent his decision to cast off his assimilationist upbringing and dedicate himself to revolution.
The insights these works provide give a new depth and complexity to our understanding of Fanon's entire oeuvre and reveal how his powerful thinking about race, identity and activism remain pertinent to modern society. Internally, the air attacks paved the way for internal disturbances in the oil producing areas by damaging oil companies’ activities and the reducing foreign investment. Externally, it caused a loss of confidence in Nigeria. The Biafran air offensive proved to be the key strategy in Nigeria’s response to the crisis, which focused on neutralizing Biafran airpower.

Using the framework of a princely life-cycle,this book evaluates British policy towards the princes during the period 1858-1909.Within this framework Caroline Keen examines disputed successions to Indian thrones,the reaction of young rulers to a western education, princely marriages and the empowerment of royal women,the administration of states,and efforts to alter court hierarchy and ritual to conform to strict British bureaucratic guidelines.A recurring theme is the frequently incompatible relationship between British officials posted to the states and their superiors within the Government of India. Rarely examined archival material is used to provide a detailed analysis of policy-making which deals with British procedure at all levels of officialdom. Описание: Positioning race front and centre, this book theorizes that political violence, in the form of a socio-political process that differentiates between human and less-than-human populations, is used by the state of Israel in racializing and ruling the citizens of occupied Palestine. Lentin argues that Israel’s rule over Palestine is an example of Agamben’s state of exception, Goldberg’s racial state and Wolfe’s settler colony; the Israeli racial settler colony employs its laws to rule besieged Palestine, while excluding itself and its Jewish citizen-colonists from legal instruments and governmental technologies. Governing through emergency legislation and through practices of exception, emergency, necessity and security, Israel positions itself outside domestic and international law. Deconstructing Agamben’s Eurocentric theoretical position Lentin shows that it occludes colonialism, settler colonialism and anti-colonialism and fails to specifically foreground race; instead she combines the work of Wolfe, who proposes race as a trace of settler colonialism, and Weheliye, who argues that Agamben’s western-centric understanding of exception fail to speak from explicitly racialized and gendered standpoints. Employing existing media, activist, and academic accounts of racialization this book deliberately breaks from white, Western theorizations of biopolitics, exception, and bare life, and instead foregrounds race and gender in analysing settler colonial conditions in Israel.
