As robots are used more and more to perform a variety of tasks in a range of fields, it is imperative to make the robots as reliable and safe as possible. Yet no book currently covers robot reliability and safety within one framework. Robot System Reliability and Safety: A Modern Approach presents up-to-date information on robot reliability, safety, and related areas in a single volume, eliminating the need to consult diverse sources.
After introducing historical, mathematical, and introductory aspects, the book presents methods for analyzing robot system reliability and safety. It next focuses on topics related to robot reliability, including classifications of robot failures and their causes and hydraulic and electric robots' reliability analysis. The book then explains the analysis of robot-related safety and accidents, covers key elements of robot maintenance and robotics applications in maintenance and repair, and addresses human factors and safety considerations in robotics workplaces. The book concludes with chapters on robot testing, costing, and failure data as well as six mathematical models for reliability and safety analysis.
Written by a well-known expert in reliability engineering, this book will be useful to system, design, reliability, and safety engineers along with other engineering professionals working in the area of robotics. It can also be used in courses on system engineering, reliability engineering, and safety engineering.
The first edition of Handbook of Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care and Patient Safety took the medical and ergonomics communities by storm with in-depth coverage of human factors and ergonomics research, concepts, theories, models, methods, and interventions and how they can be applied in health care. Other books focus on particular human factors and ergonomics issues such as human error or design of medical devices or a specific application such as emergency medicine. This book draws on both areas to provide a compendium of human factors and ergonomics issues relevant to health care and patient safety.
The second edition takes a more practical approach with coverage of methods, interventions, and applications and a greater range of domains such as medication safety, surgery, anesthesia, and infection prevention. New topics include:
work schedules
error recovery
telemedicine
workflow analysis
simulation
health information technology development and design
patient safety management
Reflecting developments and advances in the five years since the first edition, the book explores medical technology and telemedicine and puts a special emphasis on the contributions of human factors and ergonomics to the improvement of patient safety and quality of care. In order to take patient safety to the next level, collaboration between human factors professionals and health care providers must occur. This book brings both groups closer to achieving that goal.

Описание: Accident prevention is a common thread throughout every aspect of our society. However, even with the most current technological developments, keeping people safe and healthy, both at workplaces and at other daily activities, is still a continual challenge. When it comes to work environments, ergonomics and human factors knowledge can play an important role and, therefore, must be included in, or be a part of, the safety management as a cross-disciplinary area concerned with the understanding of actual work situations and potential variables. This multidisciplinary approach will ultimately ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all collaborators. The main goal of this book is to present theories and models, and to describe practices to foster and promote safer work and working environments. This book offers:· Examples of field practices that can be reproduced in other scenarios· Applications of new methods for risk assessment· Methods on how to apply and integrate human factors and ergonomics in accident prevention and safety management· Coverage of human factors and ergonomics in safety culture· New methods for accident analysis This book is a compilation of contributions from invited authors organized in three main topics from eleven countries and is intended to cover specific aspects of safety and human factors management ranging from case studies to the development of theoretical models.Hopefully, the works presented in the book can be an inspiration for translating research into useful actions and, ultimately, making a relevant and tangible contribution to the safety of our daily and work settings.
Consider a Viable and Cost-Effective Platform for the Industries of the Future (IOF)
Benefit from improved safety, performance, and product deliveries to your customers. Achieve a higher rate of equipment availability, performance, product quality, and reliability. Integrated Reliability: Condition Monitoring and Maintenance of Equipment incorporates reliable engineering and mathematical modeling tohelp you move toward sustainable development in reliability condition monitoring and maintenance. This text introduces a cost-effective integrated reliability growth monitor, integrated reliability degradation monitor, technological inheritance coefficient sensors, and a maintenance tool that supplies real-time information for predicting and preventing potential failures of manufacturing processes and equipment.
The author highlights five key elements that are essential to any improvement program: improving overall equipment and part effectiveness, quality, and reliability; improving process performance with maintenance efficiency and effectiveness; training all employees involved; including operators in the daily maintenance and upkeep of the equipment; and implementing early equipment management and maintenance prevention design. He offers a sustainable solution with integrated reliability condition monitoring and maintenance of manufacturing processes, parts, and equipment in the IOFs with a technological inheritance model-based program.
This book contains 15 chapters that include details on:
Improving the material-part-equipment system life cycle, reliability conditions, and manufacturing process productivity for wear, corrosion, and temperature resistance applications
Maximizing the component and system reliability growth of parts and equipment
Minimizing reliability degradation within the framework of a condition-based maintenance
Analyzing the reliability degradation, wear, and other competing failure modes of nickel-based hard alloy-coated part mating surface with a technological inheritance model-based program
Introducing a cost-effective integrated reliability monitor and maintenance strategy with a technological inheritance model-based software program
Integrated Reliability: Condition Monitoring and Maintenance of Equipment addresses potential failures from an asset manager, maintenance user, and operator's standpoint, and highlights the solutions to common failures and reliability problems for equipment in the IOFs.

Описание:
This book provides engineers and scientists with a single source introduction to the concepts, models, and case studies for making credible reliability assessments. It satisfies the need for thorough discussions of several fundamental subjects.
Section I contains a comprehensive overview of assessing and assuring reliability that is followed by discussions of: - Concept of randomness and its relationship to chaos - Uses and limitations of the binomial and Poisson distributions - Relationship of the chi-square method and Poisson curves - Derivations and applications of the exponential, Weibull, and lognormal models - Examination of the human mortality bathtub curve as a template for components
Section II introduces the case study modeling of failure data and is followed by analyses of: - 5 sets of ideal Weibull, lognormal, and normal failure data - 83 sets of actual (real) failure data
The intent of the modeling was to find the best descriptions of the failures using statistical life models, principally the Weibull, lognormal, and normal models, for characterizing the failure probability distributions of the times-, cycles-, and miles-to-failure during laboratory or field testing. The statistical model providing the preferred characterization was determined empirically by choosing the two-parameter model that gave the best straight-line fit in the failure probability plots using a combination of visual inspection and three statistical goodness-of-fit (GoF) tests.
This book offers practical insight in dealing with single item reliability and illustrates the use of reliability methods to solve industry problems.
