Описание:
Studies in Natural Products Chemistry: Bioactive Natural Products (Part XIII) is the latest in a series that covers the synthesis or testing and recording of the medicinal properties of natural products, providing cutting-edge accounts of the fascinating developments in the isolation, structure elucidation, synthesis, biosynthesis, and pharmacology of a diverse array of bioactive natural products.
Natural products in the plant and animal kingdom offer a huge diversity of chemical structures that are the result of biosynthetic processes that have been modulated over the millennia through genetic effects. With the rapid developments in spectroscopic techniques and accompanying advances in high-throughput screening techniques, it has become possible to quickly isolate and determine the structures and biological activity of natural products, thus opening up exciting opportunities in the field of new drug development to the pharmaceutical industry.
Описание: Medicinal Plants in Asia for Metabolic Syndrome: Natural Products and Molecular Basis offers an in-depth view into the metabolic syndrome pharmacology of natural products with an emphasis on their molecular basis, cellular pathways, metabolic organs, and endocrine regulations.

Описание: The first contribution reviews the occurrence of xanthine alkaloids in the plant kingdom and the elucidation of the caffeine biosynthesis pathway, providing details of the N-methyltransferases, belonging to the motif B` methyltransferase family which catalyze three steps in the four step pathway leading from xanthosine to caffeine.
Описание: The volumes of this classic series, now referred to simply as "Zechmeister" after its founder, L. The volumes contain contributions on various topics related to the origin, distribution, chemistry, synthesis, biochemistry, function or use of various classes of naturally occurring substances ranging from small molecules to biopolymers.

Описание: Due to the increase in the consumption of herbal medicine, there is a need to know which scientifically based methods are appropriate for assessing the quality of herbal medicines. Fingerprinting has emerged as a suitable technique for quality estimation. Chemical markers are used for evaluation of herbal medicines. Identification and quantification of these chemical markers are crucial for quality control of herbal medicines. This book provides updated knowledge on methodology, quality assessment, toxicity analysis and medicinal values of natural compounds.

Описание: Today's evolving interest in ecology and the preservation of nature has led us to reconsider the importance of the plant world as it relates to our health. Plants have always occupied a prominent part in the healing arts throughout history and to our present day. The contemporary environmental scientist and author, G. Tyler Miller, reminds us that one-fourth of all the medicines we see on our modern pharmacy shelf had their origins in plant use. Of course we don't sell willow bark over the counter now -we simply synthesize the aspirin tablet from it. This book is organized by major therapeutic category. It brings together the achievements of three major disciplines to help us understand and appreciate the importance of some select medicinal plants.

Описание: The Leguminosae is an economically important family in the Dicotyledonae with many cultivated species, e. g., beans and peas. The family also contains many well-known medicinal plants. It is composed of 17,000 or more species that constitute nearly one twelfth of the world's flowering plants (1). Traditionally the family has been divided into three subfamilies, Caesalpinioideae, Mimosoideae and Papilionoi- deae, which are sometimes recognized as separate families Caesalpinia- ceae, Mimosaceae and Papilionaceae. The International Code of Botanical Nomenclature permits alternative nomenclatures, the family names being replaced by Fabaceae, Fabales and Faboideae, and this usage will be common (2). Licorice (liquorice, kanzoh in Japanese, gancao in Chinese) is the name applied to the roots and stolons of some Glycyrrhiza species (Fabaceae) and has been used by human beings for at least 4000 years. The earliest written reference to the use of licorice is contained in the Codex Hammurabi dating from 2100 B. C., and the subsequent history in the West has been described in the earlier reviews (3-6). In the Far East, references to the effectiveness of licorice are contained in the "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing," the first Chinese dispensatory whose original anonymous volumes probably appeared by the end of the third century (7, 8).
