Zunachst erscheint eine Beschrankung des Buches auf Sondersllihle im Sinne von E. Houdremont nach dem heutigen Stand nicht mehr gerechtfertigt. Wenn man narnlich den Begriff "Sonderstahl", der sich in offiziellen Festlegungen oder Normen nie durchgesetzt hat, ersetzt durch den heute normenmaBig festgelegten Begriff "Edelstahl", was mit gewissen Einschrankungen zutassig erscheint, und wenn man bedenkt, daB die Grenzen zwischen den Edelsllihlen und den Nicht- Edelstahlen, den Grund- und Qualitatsstahlen, in Normen zwar fixiert (siehe Teil A), in den technischen Gegebenheiten aber flieBend sind, so liegt es - auch im Hinblick auf die groBe Bedeutung der Nicht-Edelstahle - nahe, in einem solchen Buch alle Stahlarten zu erfassen. Bei der Vielfalt und Verschiedenartigkeit der Stahle bedeutet das aber einen Zwang zur Heranziehung einer groBen Zahl von Fachleuten, also zur Gemeinschaftsarbeit. 1m iibrigen fiihrt auch das kaum noch iiberschaubare Schrifttum auf diesem Gebiet, dessen Gesamtauswertung durch einzelne Fachleute kaum moglich ist, zwangstaufig zu dem Gedanken, das neue Buch in einer Gemeinschaftsarbeit herauszugeben.
