Описание:

This little book provides basic 7-minute yoga exercises for each day of the week. The exercises are organized by the mythological and planetary significances of each particular day. For example, Monday is the day of the moon and its focus is on cleansing, introspection, and planning. The gentle daily exercises, each including a mantra and a meditation, focus on various parts of the body--from the heart and shoulders to the pelvis and the digestive tract. By the end of the week, the practitioner will have experienced full-body yoga, and every part of the body will feel energized and strong.

This is more than a book for the body; Hirschi has constructed a simple step-by-step program that aims to heal and energize the soul and spirit.

Описание:

If there is one film in the canon of Carl Theodor Dreyer that can be said to be, as Jacques Lacan might put it, his most “painfully enjoyable,” it is Gertrud. The film's Paris premier in 1964 was covered by the Danish press as a national scandal; it was lambasted on its release for its lugubrious pace, wooden acting, and old-fashioned, stuffy milieu. Only later, when a younger generation of critics came to its defense, did the method in what appeared to be Dreyer's madness begin to become apparent.

To make vivid just what was at stake for Dreyer, and still for us, in his final work, James Schamus focuses on a single moment in the film. He follows a trail of references and allusions back through a number of thinkers and artists (Boccaccio, Lessing, Philostratus, Charcot, and others) to reveal the richness and depth of Dreyer's work--and the excitement that can accompany cinema studies when it opens itself up to other disciplines and media. Throughout, Schamus pays particular attention to Dreyer's lifelong obsession with the “real,” developed through his practice of “textual realism,” a realism grounded not in standard codes of verisimilitude but on the force of its rhetorical appeal to its written, documentary sources.

As do so many of the heroines of Dreyer's other films, such as La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc (1928), Gertrud serves as a locus for Dreyer's twin fixations; written texts, and the heroines who both embody and free themselves from them. Dreyer based Gertrud not only on Hjalmar Soderberg's play of 1906, but also on his own extensive research into the life of the “real” Gertrud, Maria van Platen, whose own words Dreyer interpolated into the film. By using his film as a kind of return to the real woman beneath the text, Dreyer rehearsed another lifelong journey, back to the poor Swedish girl who gave birth to him out of wedlock and who gave him up for adoption to a Danish family, a mother whose existence Dreyer only discovered later in life, long after she had died.

Описание:

Gertrud the Great (1256-1302) entered the monastery of Helfta in eastern Germany as a child oblate. At the age of twenty-five she underwent a conversion that led to a series of visionary experiences. These centered on "the divine loving-kindness," which she perceived as expressed through and symbolized by Christ's divine Heart. Some of these experiences she recorded in Latin "with her own hand," in what became Book 2 of The Herald of God's Loving-Kindness.

Books 1, 3, 4, and 5 were written down by another nun, a close confidant of the saint, now often known as "Sister N." Book 4 records Gertrud's many vivid spiritual experiences, which took place on various liturgical feasts when she was too sick to take part in the community's worship. Foregrounding visions of the court of heaven and dialogues with Christ, the Virgin Mary, and other saints, they further develop devotional themes already present in the earlier books. Often profoundly indebted to the liturgy of Mass and office, they have been carefully arranged according to the ecclesiastical year by the medieval compiler.

Описание: Analyzing Delinquency among Kurdish Adolescents uses Hirschi's social bonding theory to examine the mediating effect of social bonding on delinquent behavior among Kurdish teenagers, who were used as a case study to test the usefulness of this theory. In this study, participants were selected from one G len movement affiliated school and one public or non-G len affiliated school. This study sheds light on Turkish society's chaotic conditions in southeastern Turkey, particularly with respect to Kurdish adolescents' involvement in the Kurdish Worker's Party (PKK). There is a lack of research regarding how Kurdish adolescents are involved in delinquent behavior as portrayed in popular Turkish media. Social bonding theory, developed and mainly tested in American and western European contexts, needs additional exploration of its efficiency in a nonwestern, especially Islamic, society. Thus, this book helps to better understand the factors that influence crime and delinquency in developing, culturally diverse social structures. Scholars in sociology, psychology, and criminology, as well as in the fields of political science, Middle Eastern studies, and education, will greatly benefit from this study.
