Описание: The question of Kosovan sovereignty and independence has a history which stretches far back beyond the outbreak of war in 1998. This volume is a compilation of key documents on Kosovo from the first half of the twentieth century. These texts, including numerous diplomatic despatches from the British Foreign Office, deal initially with the Albanian uprising against Ottoman rule in the spring of 1912 and, in particular, with the period of the Serbian invasion of Kosovo in late 1912 and the repercussions of the conquest for the Albanian population. The documents from 1918 to the early 1920s focus mainly on endeavours by Albanian leaders, including those of the so-called Kosovo Committee in exile, to bring the plight of their people to the attention of the outside world - endeavours which largely failed. Further documents reflect the situation in Kosovo up to the outbreak of World War II. This collection provides new perspectives on the Kosovo question and includes many documents which have been largely unavailable up to now. It sheds new light on many of the major and minor episodes that channelled and determined subsequent events, including the Kosovo War of 1998-1999 and the declaration of independence in February 2008.
Описание: A critical and comprehensive analysis of post-2008 Balkan cinema through a transnational and cross-cultural approach
Comprehensive account of all national cinemas from the Balkan region
Emphasis on co-productions, transnational exchanges and global circulation
Reference tables on national and regional film supporting institutions and film festivals
Focus on small and as-yet underrepresented cinemas, such as Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Albania
The first inclusive collection to examine post-2008 developments in Balkan cinema, this book brings together a number of international scholars to explore its industrial contexts and textual dimensions. With a focus on transnational links, global networks and cross-cultural exchanges, the book addresses the role of national and supranational institutions as well as film festival networks in supporting film production, distribution and reception. It also identifies key characteristics in the subject matter and aesthetics of Balkan films made since the global economic crisis. Through critical and comprehensive country profiles, and with a focus on smaller and underrepresented cinemas from Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Albania, the collection argues for the continuing relevance of the concept of 'Balkan cinema'.

"Anna's Dance: A Balkan Odyssey is an ambitious undertaking. Rich with drama and passion, it's a poignant story of love and misadventure..." -The Manhattan Review
Anna Rossi, the protagonist of the coming-of-age novel, Anna's Dance: A Balkan Odyssey, is a twenty-three-year-old mostly Jewish-American girl alienated from her roots and fearful of intimacy. On an impromptu journey through the Balkans, an area whose history and culture attracts her as a kind of mirror of her own, she meets others who share with her a past of external prejudice and internal suffering. Forced to confront directly what results when nations suppress their minorities, Anna learns that ugly stereotypes can distort one's sense of self and heritage, and that anger and frustration can lead to ethno-nationalism and violence.
Set in 1968, when world-wide protests raged against repressive regimes and powerful majorities, Anna's odyssey highlights antisemitism and the Holocaust in America and the Balkans as it immerses her in the pain of other ethnicities, opens her to love and loss, and helps her find meaning, a purpose, and her own place in the world. In Istanbul's oldest synagogue, she proudly embraces her Jewish identity.
Steeped in American, Jewish, and Balkan history, Anna's Dance links the marginalized, among them Jews, African Americans, Armenians, and the various Balkan peoples-while exploring concerns that plague us still, both here at home and globally.

Описание: The next book in the fantastic Kydd series.
The centenary of the „Great War" not only inspired the memory on this "great seminal catastrophe of this century", but has also reopened the question of its interpretation and description. Within these discussions the Balkans have also gained an increased importance. Following the concept of a "modern" military-history, the volume puts the "event, experiences and memory" at its center and thus seeks to integrate South-Eastern Europe more into the comparative picture of the "Great War".
