Описание:

When great aunt Alice (Penney) Junkins passed away in 1989, she left the Penney/Parker memorabilia to Janice. Once she began going through the bibles, letters and private poems, she realized how important family history was and penned her first self-published book, Dear Relatives, for family members. To please the Irish heritage on her mothers side, she then self-published The Murphys.

For many years Janice was the editor of The Saugonian Newspaper and also wrote weekly columns in the Saugus Advertiser entitled Remember When, recalling the history of her home town. In 2003, the Saugus Historical Society published My Home Town, a booklet full of her family stories. Her latest publication, A Boy Named Andrzej, is a biography of a young boy whose entire family was captured in the Nazi invasion of Poland.

A former Selectman and Town Meeting Member, Janice has served as President of the Marleah E. Graves (MEG) Foundation for the past thirteen years. A widow, mother of four, and grandmother of ten, Janice hopes her family will treasure the history of their ancestors and appreciate the spiritual connection they all share.

Описание: This monograph is a summary of research in twentieth-century Polish-French relations conducted by the authors over the course of many years. This relationship is shown against the background of the dynamic international situation. The structure for arguments made in this work consists of events from the years 1944 to 1989 and thus covers the period in which communists took power in Poland and stabilized and solidified their rule over the country. In addition to sections devoted to political relations, this work contains detailed discussion of economic issues as well as of cultural, academic, scientific and educational questions. The authors devoted individual chapters to relations between the communist parties of both countries, arguing that actions taken by these parties influenced the shape of the relationship far beyond inter-party collaboration.

In Search of the Cultural Motivation in Language: Girl and Woman in James Joyce`s “Dubliners”

Описание:

This book aims to expose a panchronic outlook on motivation behind the word within the paradigm of cognitive linguistics. On the example of girl and woman used in "Dubliners", the author emphasises the impact of culture on human conceptualisation which, in turn, can be traced in language. The results of her analysis reveal that the linguistic sign is not an arbitrary pairing of form and meaning, but rather a language unit motivated by culture.

This book will be of interest to those who wish to look more closely at the relationship between language, culture and human mind. Readers interested in Joyce will also find a great dose of cultural and biographical facts related to his life as well as his vision of females as conceptualised in "Dubliners".
