In this volume, editors Brian Danoff and L. Joseph Hebert, Jr.

Beginning to End is the book I needed when I accepted the Director position of my first child care center. I could have used a roadmap to navigate the ins and outs of being a leader and of building an education organization - at the same time. I could have used a book that was clearly written with details and specifics, guidelines and know-how - to help me create a vision for this new program; to build my team; to add the parent component; to set the stage for the children; to design environments and program for them; to create and fit the many parts of the organization together; to make changes when they were needed; to think strategically and execute those plans; to close the center if that decision was made.
This is that book And, it is my story - inspired by the largest child care center that I opened during my career. I served as Director there for twenty years and ultimately, closed the door. I experienced first-hand, the entire life cycle of a child care center and I have a unique perspective to share what I have learned.
What I bring to this book is a wealth of hands-on, real-life experience and expertise, humor, and common sense. I know the life of the education/business director. I have lived it. I know the joys and satisfactions. I know the problems and pitfalls - and the solutions and strategies to avoid them. I've learned a lot because I have built four early childhood programs.
Beginning to End is a 'how-to' and memoir combined. It was specifically written as a resource for early childhood educators at all levels, but it has appeal and merit for other people-centered businesses as well. Take the ideas and approaches - use them. They work

Описание: Synopsis: People are moving to the margins of the Catholic Church. As one dialogue partner states, "I left the Church to beat the rush." Yet, another remarks, "I just wonder. I have to ask, who's on the margins? I'm not sure." Let Your Voice Be Heard details original practical theology research that endeavors to understand the dynamics on the margins of the Roman Catholic Church in dialogue with fifty dialogue partners from across the United States. Practical theology, the theology of marginality of Jung Young Lee, reciprocal ethnography, and the communication theory of Mikhail Bakhtin join in a cross-disciplinary dialogue. In conversation with dialogue partners, Joan Hebert Reisinger seeks the reasons why Catholics over the age of twenty-one who were once active and involved in the Catholic Church find themselves on the margins of the Church and how they understand their own marginality. The dialogue partners speak of new ways of being Church emerging on the margins. This emerging Church is marked by inclusive relationships that include dialogue that does not seek agreement or consensus, a critical and thoughtful recalling of memories and narratives of the Catholic faith tradition, and appropriation of these in new and creative ways. Endorsements: "Creating a rich theological dialogue rooted in cross-disciplinary inquiry, Reisinger makes room at the table for those who in the past have been overlooked and undervalued. In Let Your Voice Be Heard, we are challenged to rethink our perceptions of margin and center, discovering the creative potential situated in the diversity of voices at the margins of the church." --L. Juliana Claassens, Stellenbosch University "If you pick up this book, be prepared to listen. When Joan Reisinger invites us to listen to Catholics at the margins, she means it. She lets us hear their voices, their longings, and their pain. But these voices are not outsiders looking in; they are wisdom-seekers forging new ground and space with faith that is both bold and hopeful." --Kathleen A. Cahalan, Saint John's School of Theology-Seminary "This is an amazing book, learned and very wise. Catholic leaders talk today about 'the new evangelization.' I think they would be well advised to read this book to understand both the challenge and importance of this new evangelization for those who are so faithful, and yet find themselves at the church's margins. Such women and men may well evangelize us " --Stephen Bevans, Catholic Theological Union "This is practical theology for the U.S. Catholic context, where the margins are an increasingly crowded and--as this book shows--theologically rich place." --Tom Beaudoin, Fordham University Author Biography: Joan Hebert Reisinger combines a dual career as both a practical theologian and a speech language pathologist. Her primary research interests are in ecclesiology, particularly the study of those on the margins of the Church, and religious education.
Описание: What do we already know about kids? ALL kids are naturally curious. ALL kids want attention. When we make time to Show, Ask, or Teach kids something, we help kids in two very important ways: -We help them grow smarter. Consequently, they will know more and want to know more. -We give them our time and undivided attention. Consequently, they will grow appreciative and grateful for our efforts, and connect with us more as parents. The Teachable Minute raises one very important question in today's fast-paced, technologically advanced world: How can we strike a balance between engaging with devices and interacting with kids? "As I considered the answer, I drew from my many years of experience as a mother of three children, experienced educator, and national literacy consultant. I've caught thousands, if not millions, of 'teachable minutes' with kids What I know for sure is that when we make a conscious effort to capture 'the teachable minute' as often as possible, in a variety of settings, we help kids grow smarter and more appreciative." --from the book The Teachable Minute The teachable minute is a golden opportunity to teach kids something, anywhere, FAST. It can be caught at any time, in common places where we all live and go. The teachable minute can appear in a car, at the mall, around the kitchen table, at the post office, in the yard, on a plane, in an elevator, at the beach, on the subway, in a rocking chair, at the park, in the bathtub, and anywhere else you can think of. Dr. Connie Hebert is a nationally acclaimed teacher of teachers, author, motivational speaker, and mother. She wants all parents to experience the teachable minute--because when it's gone, it's gone. Catch it with your kids. The Teachable Minute shows you how For more information on how to capture the teachable minute with your kids, please visit: www.theteachableminute.com OR www.conniehebert.com
Herbert Shelton was, in many ways, a man ahead of his own time. Born at the close of the 20th century, Shelton was an adherent of the Hygienic movement and a tireless advocate of alternative medicine. Throughout his life he opposed mainstream medical practices; he warned that drugs were being over-prescribed and that hospitalization often made sick patients get sicker. Shelton dedicated his life to offering a different approach to health. He wrote extensively about the benefits of a plant-based diet, the natural healing properties of the body, and the importance of avoiding drugs and surgery.
More than anything else, Shelton emphasized the need to become attuned to the natural processes of the body. He warned that "civilized" man had grown out of touch with the promptings of his own instincts, and that there was an urgent need to reconnect to the physical side of life - to eat nutritious food (raw, when possible), exercise, take in the sun, and get plenty of proper rest. Shelton warned that failing to listen to the body's natural needs could lead to serious disease. But he also believed that at almost any stage, the body could be set back on the right and healthy course.
Herbert Shelton was a prolific writer, and it would be virtually impossible to read all of his works. However, Shelton tended to return again and again to a few major themes, all of which are included in this collection. Those themes include the nature of disease; diet and nutrition; fasting; and the Hygiene movement itself. In many ways, Shelton was concerned with what we might call preventive care today.
Shelton believed that the doctors of his time were looking at the problem of disease backwards. He pointed out that most of the time, doctors don't diagnose a condition until it has reached a very advanced stage. In many cases, he wrote, medical men didn't diagnose the condition until after the patient's death, when an autopsy was performed. To Shelton, this was an absurd situation. As he wrote,
"When a pathological condition becomes manifest so that a diagnosis, right or wrong, may be made, this is not its beginning. Indeed, its beginning may be, and often is years prior to this. Its development is invariably slow, gradual, insidious, causing little to no disturbance to the body and no visible sign of its presence."
A body treated well - treated hygienically - will preserve its own health, Shelton argued. That's the kernel of his beliefs, and it's also the reason that he was so virulently opposed to mainstream medicine. He railed against what medical drugs, calling them "poison." But beyond that, he urged his followers to look at health, and disease, in a whole new way.
Looked at correctly, Shelton believed, disease is not an enemy. It is an opportunity to improve one's own relationship to our bodies. It is an opportunity to reconnect with our native vitality and to come into deeper connection with the restorative forces of nature. At a time when more and more of us are living anxious lives, increasingly disconnected from the physical and natural world, Shelton's writings seem more relevant than ever.
