Описание:
This book examines alienation from both a sociological and psychoanalytic perspective, revisiting classic treatments of the topic (Marx, Simmel, Weber) and exploring its relevance to understanding post-modern consumer society. It examines the escapist potentials for good and for ill in modern society - those fostered by commercial interests, and those maintained by individuals and groups as their form of resisting alienation.

Описание: Other to Other (O2O): Expanding successful engagement outside your comfort zone is written from an operational perspective. The O2O model was developed to be used with persons and contexts across a range of races, ethnicities, gender identities, ages, abilities, experiences, and environments. The four components of the O2O model: knowledge, skills, personal characteristics, and motivation, are introduced and discussed separately, with an analysis and, an incomplete list of the many knowledge, skills, and personal characteristics embedded in successful engagement with Other.
Although the first three components are presented in their higher level of knowing, discussion is provided around task analysis and scaffolding of the knowledge and skills. Motivation, the fourth component, is discussed using the Value*Expectation*Cost theory. This theory is described as is the motivation necessary for successful O2O engagements. Examples applying each component in different contexts are provided. Finally, the nonlinear, developmental, intertwined, and dynamic aspects of the O2O model are described.

Описание: The therapeutic relationship, more than any particular technique or intervention, is the key to therapeutic success. Positive regard is a crucial component of that relationship. This book reconsiders the role of positive regard in contemporary psychotherapies. Positive regard, along with the therapist's empathy and genuineness, is one of Carl Rogers' three amp quot necessary and sufficient amp quot conditions for therapeutic change. However, positive regard is the least well-researched and most misunderstood of the three conditions. It has long been conceived as a potential ingredient in the formation and development of an effective therapeutic relationship, but many therapists in recent decades have considered positive regard a dubious ingredient, too oblivious to human frailty and malevolence, and too susceptible to a therapist's potential for collusion with patients' defenses and resistance to change. Written for a variety of psychotherapists, this book offers an investigation into the efficacy of positive regard by examining its history, evolution, misperceptions, criticisms, and value. The authors argue for a broader acceptance of the role of positive regard across diverse patients and therapies.

Описание: The concept of intimacy puts forth important challenges to contemporary cultural psychology. Intimacy refers to a felt experience of interiority that although is intuitively comprehensible, does not have rigorously defined limits. Intimacy can refer to a content, an object, a person, ownership, or even a part of one's own body.
A potentially problematic issue for cultural psychology is that acknowledging intimacy seems to bound the Self to areas disjointed from the social sphere. In a globalized world, we witness a developmental process where social life becomes sectioned, where people are involved in an identity search by foregrounding certain social roles. With this backdrop in mind, people redefine and rebuild their intimacy spaces and the ways they roam from these to the public and collective realm.
Exploring the current historical situation leads us to consider intimacy as culture in the making; certainly, in the way it manifests itself, but particularly in how we approach and understand it. The lived (experienced) dimension of intimacy becomes truly important, since it casts new light on what we mean by intimacy in different spheres of the self's life, as well as life with others.

Описание: This new edition offers practical exercises and a training program for cultivating presence in students and trainees. Therapeutic presence-one amp rsquo s ability to exist fully in the moment with a client-is crucial to effective psychotherapy practice. Since the first edition of Therapeutic Presence was published nearly a decade ago, further research has emphasized the role and deepened our understanding of this essential building block of effective therapeutic relationships. This book is a detailed guide on cultivating therapeutic presence for new and seasoned therapists alike. The authors amp rsquo model is based on the results of their extensive study, and revolves around three key aspects of therapeutic presence: Using mindfulness and experiential exercises to create the conditions for presence, both prior to and in sessions Generating attunement to self and others, as a precursor that facilitates therapeutic presence and Recognizing the felt experience of in-session presence. With practical, research-based scenarios and exercises, as well as a full training program for cultivating presence in students and trainees, this text will help train the next generation of therapists in the nuts-and-bolts of empathic attunement and a strong therapeutic alliance to create effective therapy.

Описание: These books grew out of the perception that a number of important conceptual and theoretical advances in research on small group behavior had developed in recent years, but were scattered in rather fragmentary fashion across a diverse literature. Thus, it seemed useful to encourage the formulation of summary accounts. A conference was held in Hamburg with the aim of not only encouraging such developments, but also encouraging the integration of theoretical approaches where possible. These two volumes are the result. Current research on small groups falls roughly into two moderately broad categories, and this classification is reflected in the two books. Volume I addresses theoretical problems associated with the consensual action of task-oriented small groups, whereas Volume II focuses on interpersonal relations and social processes within such groups. The two volumes differ somewhat in that the conceptual work of Volume I tends to address rather strictly defined problems of consensual action, some approaches tending to the axiomatic, whereas the conceptual work described in Volume II is generally less formal and rather general in focus. However, both volumes represent current conceptual work in small group research and can claim to have achieved the original purpose of up-to-date conceptual summaries of progress on new theoretical work.
