Описание: The laboratory work to the dynamics of turbidity currents, outlined in this volume, is the first experimentalinvestigation of the nature of downslape gravity-drivencurrents of suspended sediments which are reflected/deflected against obstacles such as seamounts oceanfloorslopes.

Ocean Currents of the World: Our Oceans in Motion opens with a general introduction to ocean currents, covering basic principles of cause and effect, measurement and modelling, etc. The majority of the book comprises a sequence of chapters covering distinct aspects of contrasting ocean currents: broad and slow; deep and shallow; narrow and swift; large-scale and small-scale; low latitudes and high latitudes; moving in horizontal and vertical planes. Through this approach the authors cover a wide range of applications, from local to global, with considerable geographical context. Each chapter concludes with a suggested assignment and accompanying resource, helping to apply the information to a real-world context.

Описание: This book contains the written, thoroughly reviewed versions of both invited lectures and regular presentations given at the 36th International School of Hydraulics, held at Jachranka in Poland on May 23–26, 2017. The contributions cover recent findings in the areas of mathematical modeling as well as experimental investigations related to free surface flows and pollution, sediment and heat transport processes in rivers. Better understanding of environmental flows requires cognition of physical, chemical and biological attributes of flowing water and therefore hydraulic research becomes strongly interdisciplinary field of science. The authors also realize that fundamental knowledge of environmental hydraulics problems is absolutely essential for planning and design of systems to manage water resources. Nowadays the readers face a rapid development of hydraulic research due to a boom in the computer sciences and measurement techniques and this is what this book is about. Eminent world leading experts in this field and young researchers from sixteen countries from all over the world contributed to this book.

Описание: In the Langrangian view, fluid parcels are followed around as they move with the flow, experiencing chaotic or stochastic motion. This book examines both pictures, presenting a number of theoretical and experimental lectures on various aspects of transport and mixing of active and passive particles in geophysical flows.

Описание: This volume of New Surveys in the Classics examines Sophocles` reputation as a dramatic poet both in his own day and later in antiquity, and considers how it was that some of his plays survived from his time down to ours. It investigates the qualities of those plays, focusing on key aspects of Sophoclean dramaturgy such as stagecraft, narrative, rhetoric, and heroism.

Описание:
The state-of-the-art in water-worked bed hydraulics can only be examined through a careful exploration of the experimental (both laboratory and field) results via theoretical development. This book is primarily focused on the research aspects that involve a comprehensive knowledge of sediment dynamics in turbulent flows, as the most up-to-date research findings in the field are presented. It begins with two reviews on bedload transport and water-work bed experimental studies. The sediment dynamics is then analyzed from a classical perspective by applying the mean bed shear approach and additionally incorporating a statistical description for the role of turbulence. The work finally examines the local scour problems at hydraulic structures and results from field studies. It is intended as a course guide for field professionals, keeping up with modern technological developments. Therefore, as a simple prerequisite, readers should have a basic knowledge of hydraulics to an undergraduate level.
