Описание: Karl Adam illuminates the life and work of one of the most highly respected and widely read Catholic theologians of the 20th century - a theologian who not only influenced such diverse thinkers as Pope Paul VI, Karl Rahner, and Flannery O'Connor, but who also had a tremendous impact on Vatican II. Here Robert Anthony Krieg, CSC unites biography and theology in an analysis of Adam's most influential works, showing how he crafted a theology for his time, one that embodied the central tenets of Christian belief while simultaneously adopting the language of German neoromanticism. The book spans the century from Vatican I to Vatican II. Krieg begins by describing Adam's work against the backdrop of German Catholics' struggle to enter the cultural mainstream. He then analyzes Adam's major writings in the context of the Weimar Republic and the theological fermentation between the wars. Adam's confrontation with Nazism and his impact upon ecumenism and christology after World War II are also discussed. The last chapter appraises Adam's reliance on German neoromanticism for his "theology of life". Church leaders, historians, and theologians should appreciate this stimulating case study on catholicism and inculturation, which locates Adam's efforts at theological renewal in relation to both Rome's defensive stance against modernity, and also Berlin's nationalism during the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich.

Barbara Kreiger’s intriguing narrative presents the account of Clorinda Minor, a charismatic American Christian woman whose belief in the Second Coming prompted her to leave a comfortable life in Philadelphia in 1851 and take up agriculture in Palestine.
After her disappointment in a failed prophecy that the End of Days would take place in October 1844, Mrs. Minor determined that the Holy Land was not yet adequately prepared for such an event and decided that it would be her mission to teach the poverty-stricken Jews of Palestine to work the soil. In this very American story, Mrs. Minor, like so many other pioneers of her day, looked to the land as her future.
Even as her mission was distinctly religious, her daily efforts were in the social realm. And although her work brought Jews and Arabs together, and her small farm was a unique settlement where Christians, Muslims, and Jews labored alongside one another, the events detailed in Divine Expectations had dramatic and tragic diplomatic and international repercussions.
With the deft touch of a novelist, Barbara Kreiger weaves the little-known story of Clorinda Minor into the larger context of the region and its history, presenting it in its charming eccentricity and its gripping reality.

Edited and restored by the artist's grandson, Brian E. Collins, with an introduction by Eisner Award-winning author Frank M. Young, and an Afterword by comics columnist Ed Catto.
Lost Art Books launches the initial volume in a new series devoted to underappreciated illustrator and comic artist Kreigh Collins (1908-74), collecting for the first time his syndicated Sunday strip, Mitzi McCoy, in its entirety.
Kreigh Collins (1908-74) had a wanderlust, fueled by an itinerant childhood, that led to a lifetime of adventures, whether it was leaving his humble midwestern roots to study the masters in the Louvre and hone his craft painting on the banks of the Seine or getting knifed in Morocco while boating and painting his way through North Africa. But equally strong was the draw of his adopted home in Michigan, which is where he launched and set his first syndicated newspaper strip, Mitzi McCoy, in 1948. It didn't take long, though, for wanderlust to strike again, rendering Mitzi but a precursor to Collins' eventual 20-year run on the picaresque adventure comic, Kevin the Bold. Lost Art Books celebrates these beautiful beginnings with this first-ever complete collection of Collins' Mitzi McCoy.
Drawn as well as scripted by Collins, Mitzi McCoy showcased the artist's skill as an illustrator and storyteller. His picturesque landscapes, lovely character designs, and thrilling action sequences brimmed with detail and charm, and the strip's ensemble cast rotated in and out of the spotlight, taking turns as protagonists in the dozen story arcs collected in this volume. The last story collected within this volume is the narrative bridge that set Collins and his characters off on a new journey, beautifully told for the next couple of decades in the much-lauded adventure strip, Kevin the Bold.
