Описание: In Pentecostals and Roman Catholics on Becoming a Christian, Dr. Karen Murphy explores the fifth round of the International Roman Catholic-Pentecostal Dialogue (1998-2006). Discussing Spirit-baptism, faith, conversion, experience, and discipleship, Dr. Murphy notes areas in which the Dialogue has evolved since its inception in 1972. She unpacks the commonalities that bond Catholics and Pentecostals and examines theological divergences and challenges to dialogue. While Catholics approach becoming a Christian from a sacramental perspective, most Pentecostals think of Christian initiation in non-sacramental, or conversionist, terms, a reality that fosters ongoing tensions between the two traditions. Dr. Murphy reveals how Catholics and Pentecostals seek to overcome this dichotomy by honoring spirituality and experience as integral to the ecumenical encounter.

Sex abuse, pedophilia, cover-ups, corruption in the hierarchy, several Popes having illegitimate children, Bishops and Priests guilty of sex abuse of adults, rampant homosexual orgies in Vatican City, schisms, crusades, inquisitions, corrupt banking practices, and the horrific suffering caused throughout history and present day, are the result of Powers, Principalities, and Spirits from the kingdom of darkness that have entered and infected the 'Roman' Catholic Church.
The underlying issue is that the Evil that has infected the 'Roman' Catholic Church is the same Evil that affects governments and all religions and institutions when unbridled power is appropriated in the hands of one or a few, instead of from, by, and of God. Evil has enslaved human nature to Power, Money, Sex, and Hedonism
This book is not an attack on the Catholic Church, but to expose the systemic Evil that has infected the Catholic Church for centuries because of the 'Roman' empire's influence. It is also an invitation to reform by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and 'What to do' in the meantime for the faithful as part of the 'Remnant' promised by Jesus for the end times.
Jesus gave us the answer and the way through the whole mess, and that is the Holy Spirit. Who then is the Holy Spirit and how do we experience the Spirit's unconditional love, wisdom, guidance, and power?
"The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you ALL things and will remind you of everything Ihave told you." (John 14:26)
THE 'ROMAN' CATHOLIC CHURCH: Like all humans, as the Church grew, it was tempted by Original Sin to appropriate power and authority to itself, to be like God and the sole dispensers of the divine.
-
Whether knowing it or not the Roman Empire imposed their political and government structure on Christianity, placing the Holy Spirit under the umbrella of the Church.
-
Gradually, Christianity became more political to appease both the spiritual and political needs of the people. This kind of reasoning opened the door for Evil, as it did in the Garden of Eden, for authority, power, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit to only be in the hands of men who occupied appointed offices.
Only a bishop could discern the Holy Spirit.
Only a priest could anoint and preside at Eucharist and hear Confessions.
Only deacons and priests could preach, perform marriages, and bless.
Now the gifts of the Holy Spirit were no longer given to whomever the Spirit chose, but only to these who held the government appointed offices- the pope, local bishops, pastors, and local clergy.
-
THE RESULT:
Leadership and Clergy In the 'Roman' Church had the office and authority, but many lacked the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Second Vatican Council endorsed an engagement with the modern and secularized world through a renewed proclamation of the Gospel. John Paul II described this as the New Evangelization, and in 2010, Benedict XVI confirmed this priority by creating the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization to 're-propose the perennial truth of the Gospel.' The New Evangelization was the subject of the Synod of Bishops in 2012 and in 2014 Pope Francis gave his reflections on the topic in Evangelii Gaudium.
The New Evangelization draws on material presented and discussed at the conference 'Vatican II, 50 Years On: The New Evangelization' organised by Leeds Trinity University on 26-29th June 2012. Part I traces the historical and theological links between the Council and the New Evangelization. Part II examines the renewed understanding of the Church as a result of the Council and the extent to which it is shaped by civilization. Part III analyzes the nature of the New Evangelization and its outworking in today's multifarious context of cultures, religions and societies. Part IV deals with the implementation of the New Evangelization by different communities and organizations and the issues this raises. In the Introduction and Conclusion, the editors reflect on the New Evangelization in the light of significant developments since 2012.

Until the close of the Second Vatican Council in 1965, the stance of the Roman Catholic Church toward the social, cultural, economic, and political developments of the twentieth century was largely antagonistic. Naturally opposed to secularization, skeptical of capitalist markets indifferent to questions of justice, confused and appalled by new forms of high and low culture, and resistant to the social and economic freedom of women—in all of these ways the Catholic Church set itself up as a thoroughly anti-modern institution. Yet, in and through the period from World War I to Vatican II, the Church did engage with, react to, and even accommodate various aspects of modernity. In All Good Books Are Catholic Books, Una M. Cadegan shows how the Church’s official position on literary culture developed over this crucial period. The Catholic Church in the United States maintained an Index of Prohibited Books and the National Legion of Decency (founded in 1933) lobbied Hollywood to edit or ban movies, pulp magazines, and comic books that were morally suspect. These regulations posed an obstacle for the self-understanding of Catholic American readers, writers, and scholars. But as Cadegan finds, Catholics developed a rationale by which they could both respect the laws of the Church as it sought to protect the integrity of doctrine and also engage the culture of artistic and commercial freedom in which they operated as Americans. Catholic literary figures including Flannery O’Connor and Thomas Merton are important to Cadegan’s argument, particularly as their careers and the reception of their work demonstrate shifts in the relationship between Catholicism and literary culture. Cadegan trains her attention on American critics, editors, and university professors and administrators who mediated the relationship among the Church, parishioners, and the culture at large.

In early twentieth-century France, a vast network of artists, writers, and religious seekers were drawn to Roman Catholicism's elaborate panoply of symbols centered on suffering. A preoccupation with affliction dominated the movement now known as the French Catholic revival, or the renouveau catholique—considered a watershed in the history of the modern Catholic Church and the "golden age" of French Catholicism. In Sacred Dread, Brenna Moore examines the life and writings of Ra?ssa Maritain (1883-1960), one of the few women to contribute to this intellectual movement. Moore explores the reasons why Maritain, a nonpracticing Jew, was attracted to this suffering-centered theological imagination and how she and other advocates transformed it in the wake of the Holocaust. Sacred Dread offers readers a new understanding of a radical Catholic piety that was embraced by a wide range of pre-war intellectuals.
By combining late-modern French intellectual and cultural history, Catholic theology, biography, and an analysis of Maritain's published and unpublished writings, Moore also identifies two major factors in this Catholic revival—gender and Judaism—that have not received adequate attention. Discourses of femininity and Judaism were central to the French Catholic articulation and idealization of suffering. Moore argues that Maritain, as a Jewish convert and one of the few women in this intellectual community, embodied symbolic associations of suffering, holiness, women, and Jews; indeed, for her husband, godfather, confessors, friends, and godchildren, Ra?ssa Maritain was herself the articulation of this abject ideal. Caught as she was in a web of meaning, Ra?ssa Maritain was an intellectual whose legacy deepens but also subverts the centrality of femininity and Judaism in French Catholic elaborations of suffering.

Описание: In "Explorations in the Theology of Benedict XVI," a multidisciplinary group of scholars treat the full scope of Benedict s theological oeuvre, including the Augustinian context of his thought, his ecclesiology, his theologically grounded approach to biblical exegesis and Christology, his unfolding of a theology of history and culture, his liturgical and sacramental theology, his theological analysis of political and economic developments, his use of the natural law in ethics and conscience, his commitment to a form of interreligious dialogue from a place of particularity, and his function as a public, catechetical theologian. "This collection of essays on the theology of Benedict XVI offers a new apologetics founded not so much on the desire to outdo one s opponent in dialectical victory but to allow the Love in which the original Word was spoken . . . to make its own case, its own apologia, in the hearts of those who hear. It is, in short, an excellent presentation of what Benedict XVI means when he says that love and reason are the twin pillars of all reality.'The essays sympatheticallyuncover the pontiff s theological foundation stones." Tracey Rowland, John Paul II Institute, Melbourne, Australia"If you're looking for a synoptic view of Benedict XVI's theological achievement, this is by a long way the best thing on offer in English. Each of the essays provides a detailed engagement with a central theme in Benedict's theology, treated not merely in isolation but also in terms of its relations to the whole. The result is a profound depiction of the range, scope, and integrated nature of Benedict's theology. This is a volume that honors the thinker it treats by taking him seriously not only as pope, but also as a theologian." Paul J. Griffiths, Duke Divinity School"This is quite simply the best exploration of Pope Benedict's theology available in English. Some of these essays dig deep into the younger Ratzinger's Augustinian soil and reveal to us the roots of Benedict's papal teaching. Others trace the lines of growth from those roots out to his striking papal encyclicals, and to the apologetics of love that grounds his vision of the Church's task. The fruitfulness of the collection is perhaps most evident in the way that the authors do not simply repeat, but think with and in the light of Benedict s theology.Above all, this collection displays Benedict s theology as a personal, living faith and a reasoned faith, as a theology of divine and human love that invites humanity into faith s re-imagining of human existence." Lewis Ayres, Durham University"Shunning simplistic varieties of both caricature and adulation, these essays provide an appreciative but rigorous engagement with the breadth and depth of Benedict s theology. The result is not merely a collection of summaries of different texts and themes but rather a convincing portrait of the vitality, integrity, and fecundity of Benedict s theological vision and its prophetic witness to the evangelical message of God s unfathomable love." Khaled Anatolios, Boston College School of Theology and Ministry"
Описание: This book is essential reading for anyone wishing to understand the current debates and tensions within American Catholicism, which are the result of the American Catholic confrontation with historical change that occurred between 1964 and 1974 and gave rise to the current division between liberals and conservatives in America`s largest church.
Описание: Johann Adam Möhler was twenty-nine years old and a lecturer at theCatholic seminary in Tübingen when he wrote Die Einheit in der Kirche(Unity in the Church) in 1825. Its two German editions and French translations influenced Catholic authors well into the twentieth century, and the book remains an important example of the early-nineteenth-century Catholic Awakening. In Unity in the Church, Möhler upholds a romantic view of the Catholic Church by describing it as the organic development of the life-giving Holy Spirit. This, he insisted, was the teaching of the earliest Christian writers, whom he discusses and quotes at length throughout the book. Although Möhler was primarily writing as an apologist for the Catholic faith against Protestantism, his work is marked by careful study of Protestant sources, respect for Protestant thought and thinkers, and a reconciliatory tone.In this book he uses the works of the church fathers to demonstrateto his contemporary Protestant opponents that the Scripturesarose from within the church and that the earliest heresies resulted as individuals separated themselves from tradition, which has as its life source the Spirit. The Spirit works through tradition as the source of the church’s mystical and intellectual unity, a unity which allowed for diversity, but which over time formed itself under bishops. According to Möhler, the principle of unity in the church must continue until it reaches its fullest form; thus, the unity of the episcopate and all believers must represent itself in one church and one bishop. A single bishop, the primate, is the center of the living unity of the whole church. This translation is aimed at individuals interested in the development of Catholicism in the modern world and in Catholic-Protestant dialogue and ecumenism generally. It is also an important work for historians and theologians specializing in Catholic historiography, the Scripture-tradition relationship, issues of church and state, and Catholic liberalism.
