Описание: Tom Wayman's poetry has been published around the world to great acclaim. Wayman is one of Canada's most prolific and public poets, and his writing since the 1960s has been by turns angry, engaged, hopeful, tender, and hilarious. His voice and persona are his alone but simultaneously ours too. His recurring themes--work, mortality, love, lust, friendship, the natural world--make his work a poetry of human inevitabilities, a poetry that exults in the inevitability of seeing poetry in the everyday. Wayman's craft is po esis (from the Ancient Greek "to make")--making a change, making a difference, making a ruckus, making the most of our time. His working life has always been inextricable from his writing one; his poems offer an honest and candid consideration of the ideological underpinnings, practical realities, and subtle beauties of a life lived on job sites and picket lines, in union halls, classrooms, and book-stuffed offices, and on the page itself. The Order in Which We Do Things is a collection of more than thirty of Wayman's best poems, selected and introduced by Owen Percy. Percy's introduction explores the genesis of Wayman's print persona and contextualizes his politically engaged, conversational voice within the pantheon of its various publics. In his afterword, "Work and Silence," Wayman reflects on his more than forty years in print as a work poet, and underlines poetry's sustained power to engage readers, invite solidarity, and stoke the fires of critical resistance to the order in which we do things.

Описание:
Watching a Man Break a Dog's Back explores the question of how to live in a natural landscape that offers beauty while being consumed by industry, and in an economy that offers material benefits while denying dignity, meaning and a voice to many in order to satisfy the outsized appetites of the few.
A cri de coeur from a poet who has long celebrated the voices of working people, the collection also grapples with why "anyone, in this era so profoundly lacking in grace, might want to make poems--or any kind of art." But the keen sense of justice that drives the collection is tempered by the poet's reluctance to take himself too seriously: "Centuries without the benefit / of my presence / have to be made up for / by my words."
The poet brings the perspective of age to our current troubled existence, with the reminder that as a society and as individuals we've faced perilous times before, and that our shared mortality links us more than circumstances and politics divide us.

Описание: Domestic violence, rape, prison, homelessness, food insecurity, and cancer have given Yvette Carter the compassion and ability to minister to others. Read her heart-rending story of living in the streets, dealing drugs, and leaving her two young children with her mother when she was sent to prison for six years, followed by losing everything, being homeless, hungry and without hope. That despair drove her to beg for food at St. Paul, where she found God's redeeming grace. Then God began to unravel her crazy life and give her the marriage and ministry He uniquely created her for. Having walked in those same footsteps, her story will encourage those who are homeless and hungry and without hope to cry out to God who is the solution to your brokenness. There is hope for you God sees your tears and pain and wants to heal you, just as He mended her. If you believe there is no hope for "outcasts" to change, we pray you will be impacted by Yvette's living example of how God changes people and their circumstances. Will you invest in the lives of others, giving words of encouragement and hope, instead of judgment and condemnation, showing Jesus to all who need Him? Yvette Carter is Director of Open Arms Ministry, an outreach of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Largo, Florida, where she initially came seeking food for her family. She is also President and CEO of Victor Newman Ministries, serving alongside her husband, Michael, an ordained Free Methodist Minister. Jeannette (Wayman) Meitz, a spiritual mentor, finds joy in guiding women to trust God and depend on the Holy Spirit daily. With her husband, Frank, she is active in the Discipler Training International ministry, and is on the Board of Victor Newman Ministries, and learning from Yvette how to be the "hands and feet of Jesus."
Описание: Who am I, and what am I here for? Our lives depend on how we answer that question. It will affect everything from our career choices to the way we relate to God and others. But where can we turn to find the answer? Our friends? Our job title? Our relationship status? Many of us base our identity off what we do or the number of likes we get on a post. We constantly perform for other peoples approval, and then we wonder why we feel so exhausted and insecure. But whats the alternative?
What if we allowed the One who created us to answer the question for us? Eric Wayman, a pastor, professor, and disciple, invites us to pull away the masks we have been hiding behind and allow God to show us who we are and what he made us to do.
Its time to get real.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Can you imagine writing a book with your entire class? That's what the authors of this book did. And they did it in just one day
Armed with a two-page summary of a setting (the time and place where part of the story happens) and a character illustration of Kayla Wayman, along with some information about what kind of person she is, the authors set about writing their scenes. Then each author drew from his or her own personal experience and writing style to send Kayla on the adventure of a lifetime.
The editors then collected each chapter and spent months revising and editing them to weave them into one single, cohesive book, making sure the authors' story ideas came through in the chapters they wrote. The editors also wrote the novel's "key scenes" (the big plot twists, like the Time Key thief and the picnic with Grandma) and wove them into the plotline to create a better story flow. Finally, with the help of a talented publishing team, which includes a character illustrator, book cover designer, copy editor and typesetter, they crafted the book you now hold in your hands.
Kayla Wayman, Teen Time Traveler: Lost in the Stream, is the first collaborative novel of its kind, and we, the Children's Book Writers of Los Angeles (CBW-LA) are very proud of this achievement. This novel speaks to our group's purpose to educate, inspire, and empower writers to share their voices with the world. We are committed to the belief that every voice matters, regardless of age, nationality, ethnicity, religion or gender. To learn more about our programs and services, visit www.cbw-la.org.
