What does handwriting mean to you? Do you see it as the manifestation of an ancient craft or as a modern-day stylistic feature? Or perhaps a common matter that everyone develops? Is it something that must be accepted as unchangeable or is it perceived as an ability that many fail to master?
Currently, the word handwriting has been more or less limited to mean the style of writing that is unique to each person.
When handwriting had a greater practical importance, before the invention of the typewriter, schools often engaged in handwriting teaching. Scales were developed in elementary schools to gauge the consistency of the script from grade to grade and several meticulous assessments of one's handwriting were made. Studies have shown that when writing, the pressure exerted by the penholder (grip pressure) as well as the pressure placed by the tip of the pen on the paper (point pressure) varies constantly.
Moreover, it has been determined that one's writing speed is not constant but rather depends on the type of stroke that is being produced. For example, when one begins to write, the speed of writing generally increases progressively, coming to a height toward the middle of this action, and slowing down toward the end. The orientation of the stroke, its complexity, and previous form will change the pace of the writing process in question. Speed is often determined by the length of the elements of a letter or character, as it typically takes more time to draw long strokes in comparison to short ones.
Researchers have observed that these two types vary in handwriting location, speed, and the style of motions in the fingers and hands by comparing the handwriting motions of those with good and bad handwriting. An important association between the changes in speed and the shape of letters was noticed and those with good handwriting demonstrated greater uniformity in terms of the pace in which they formed their strokes.
This is a handwriting workbook for teens so that they can improve their handwriting, thereby empowering them to express themselves confidently and creatively through the written word.
