Описание: The Omoro Soshi (1531–1623) is an indispensable resource for historical linguistic comparison of Old Okinawan with other Ryukyuan languages and Old Japanese. Leon A Serafim and Rumiko Shinzato offer a reference grammar, including detailed phonological analyses, of the otherwise opaque and dense poetic/religious language of the Omoro Soshi.
Meshing Western linguistic insight with existing literary/linguistic work in Ryukyuan studies, and incorporating their own research on Modern Okinawan, the authors offer a grammar and phonology of the Omoro language, with selected (excerpts of) songs grammatically analyzed, phonologically reconstructed, translated, and annotated.
Автор: Andreas Serafim, Sophia Papaioannou Название: Comic invective in ancient Greek and Roman oratory ISBN: 3110738961 ISBN-13(EAN): 9783110738964 Издательство: Walter de Gruyter Рейтинг: Цена: 21190.00 р. Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ.
Описание:
This volume acknowledges the centrality of comic invective in a range of oratorical institutions (especially forensic and symbouleutic), and aspires to enhance the knowledge and understanding of how this technique is used in such con-texts of both Greek and Roman oratory. Despite the important scholarly work that has been done in discussing the patterns of using invective in Greek and Roman texts and contexts, there are still notable gaps in our knowledge of the issue. The introduction to, and the twelve chapters of, this volume address some understudied multi-genre and interdisciplinary topics: first, the ways in which comic invective in oratory draws on, or has implications for, comedy and other genres, or how these literary genres are influenced by oratorical theory and practice, and by contemporary socio-political circumstances, in articulating comic invective and targeting prominent individuals; second, how comic invective sustains relationships and promotes persuasion through unity and division; third, how it connects with sexuality, the human body and male/female physiology; fourth, what impact generic dichotomies, as, for example, public-private and defence-prosecution, may have upon using comic invective; and fifth, what the limitations in its use are, depending on the codes of honour and decency in ancient Greece and Rome.

Описание: After a harrowing investigation shook her to her core, she vowed to give up ghost hunting...When Kyrie Carter loses her job and her house, a much-needed new start comes in the form of a house in the mountains of Renovo, Pennsylvania, inherited from a relative she barely remembers. Despite her oldest brother's objections, Kyr reluctantly accepts it....But it seems she can't choose to just walk away.Several spirits haunt the 19th-century house, including Great-Aunt Celeste, the ghost of a woman Kyr first saw when she was only four, and a malicious male spirit who is tied to both a mysterious little girl she befriended as a child and a long-lost treasure rumored to be buried on her newly-acquired land. As Kyr tries to figure out the connection between these spirits and the property she inherited, she stumbles upon evidence of a long-hidden secret that caused a rift between Celeste and Kyr's family-a secret that shatters everything she holds dear.

Описание: A gripping insight into the digital debate over data ownership, permanence and policy “This is going on your permanent record!” is a threat that has never held more weight than it does in the Internet Age, when information lasts indefinitely. The ability to make good on that threat is as democratized as posting a Tweet or making blog. Data about us is created, shared, collected, analyzed, and processed at an overwhelming scale. The damage caused can be severe, affecting relationships, employment, academic success, and any number of other opportunities—and it can also be long lasting. One possible solution to this threat? A digital right to be forgotten, which would in turn create a legal duty to delete, hide, or anonymize information at the request of another user. The highly controversial right has been criticized as a repugnant affront to principles of expression and access, as unworkable as a technical measure, and as effective as trying to put the cat back in the bag. Ctrl+Z breaks down the debate and provides guidance for a way forward. It argues that the existing perspectives are too limited, offering easy forgetting or none at all. By looking at new theories of privacy and organizing the many potential applications of the right, law and technology scholar Meg Leta Jones offers a set of nuanced choices. To help us choose, she provides a digital information life cycle, reflects on particular legal cultures, and analyzes international interoperability. In the end, the right to be forgotten can be innovative, liberating, and globally viable.
