Описание: Music Learning Today: Digital Pedagogy for Creating, Performing, and Responding to Music presents an approach to conceptualizing and utilizing technology as a tool for music learning. Designed for use by pre- and in-service music teachers, it provides the essential understandings required to become an adaptive expert with music technology, creating and implementing lessons, units, and curriculum that take advantage of technological affordances to assist students in developing their musicianship.
Author William I. Bauer makes connections among music knowledge and skill outcomes, the research on human cognition and music learning, best practices in music pedagogy, and technology. His essential premise is that music educators and students benefit through use of technology as a tool to support learning in the three musical processes - creating, performing, and responding to music. The philosophical and theoretical rationales, along with the practical information discussed in the book, are applicable to all experience levels. However, the technological applications described are focused at a beginning to intermediate level, relevant to both pre-service and in-service music educators and their students.

Описание:

Everyone knows what noise is. Or do they? Can we in fact say that one man's noise is another teenager's music? Is noise in fact only an auditory phenomenon or does it extend far beyond this realm? If our common definitions of noise are necessarily subjective and noise is not just unpleasant sound, then it merits a closer look (or listen).

Greg Hainge sets out to define noise in this way, to find within it a series of operations common across its multiple manifestations that allow us to apprehend it as something other than a highly subjective term that tells us very little. Examining a wide range of texts, including Sartre's novel Nausea and David Lynch's iconic films Eraserhead and Inland Empire, Hainge investigates some of the Twentieth Century's most infamous noisemongers to suggest that they're not that noisy after all; and it finds true noise in some surprising places. The result is a thrilling and illuminating study of sound and culture.

Описание: So far, the study of cinema has been overwhelmingly visual. Robert Robertson instead presents cinema as an audiovisual medium, based on Sergei Eisenstein’s ideas on the montage of music, image and sound. Cinema and the Audiovisual Imagination applies an audiovisual focus to films by directors such as Spike Lee, Maya Deren, David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Fritz Lang, Luis Bunuel, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Werner Herzog, David Lean and Sergei Eisenstein. In addition, Eisenstein’s concept of ‘nonindifferent’ nature is extended to films beyond the European tradition – by Satyajit Ray, Kaneto Shindo, Akira Kurosawa and Chris H. Lynn– and the audiovisual and landscape is explored in films by Dziga Vertov, Andrei Tarkovsky, Sergei Paradjanov, Bruce Conner, Jack Chambers, Derek Jarman and Alexander Sokurov. The audiovisual in avant-garde animation by John and James Whitney, Len Lye, Norman McLaren and in the film experiments of Busby Berkeley are considered too. Responding to recent developments in technology which have enabled practitioners to work extensively with music and sound on an equal level with the visual track, the book also examines the audiovisual creative process in opera, in a music/film collaboration with Dennis Dracup and in Robertson’s own music/film Oserake and The River That Walks.
