Описание: This report, which covers countries in Asia and the Pacific, looks at cosmetics and beauty products based on non-wood forest products (NWFPs). Case studies examine specific NWFPs and the contexts in which they are collected, processed and marketed, with the aim of encouraging cross-sectoral discussions on forests and beauty products.

The use of plant extracts in cosmetics is increasing, mainly due to growing interest in the use of natural products as opposed to synthetic alternatives. Plant-based products have become popular choices in modern markets. Many facial creams, soaps, shower gels and oils rely on natural products from forests. A classic example is aloe vera, which is widely used in the preparation of a variety of products.

While drawing attention to the role of forests in supplying beauty products and the significance of this for livelihood security, this study also provides recommendations on ensuring equitable arrangements between forest communities and industry players.
