Schmelz's Alfred Schnittke's Concerto Grosso no. 1 represents the first accessible and comprehensive study of this composition. The novel structure of the book engages with the piece conceptually, historically, musically, and phenomenologically, with the six movements of the composition framing the six chapters. Augmenting and complicating the insights of existing English, Russian, and German publications on the Concerto Grosso no. 1, the book adds new information from underused primary sources, including Schnittke's unpublished correspondence and his many published interviews. It engages further with his sketches for the piece, and with contemporary Soviet musical criticism, resulting in a more objective, historical account of this rich, multifaceted composition, its influences, and its impact on music making in the USSR and worldwide.

Описание: Vivaldi's Magnificat probably dates from shortly after the 1726 death of composer C.P. Grua, which resulted in his having to provide sacred music for the Venetian orphanage and convent he enjoyed a long-standing relation with: the Ospedale della Pietа. There are actually three versions of the work: 1) for single chorus and orchestra (RV 610); 2) for double chorus and two orchestras (RV 610a); and the final version (RV 611), which takes six movements from replaces the other three movements woth solos written for specific singers at the Pietа Apollonia, la Bolognesa, Chiaretta, Ambrosina and Albetta. The present edition, originally published by E.F. Kalmus in 1969, retains the material from the original single-choris version (RV 610), while including the added solo material Vivaldi inserted for RV 611 as alternatives, making it eminently practical for today's choral groups. Now available in a digitally-enhanced reprint.

Описание: Hummel was appointed the successor to Joseph Haydn as Konzertmeister for the court orchestra of Nikolaus II, Prince Esterh zy in 1803. For the opening concert marking the new appointment, which was held on January 1, 1804, Hummel composed his three-movement concerto for trumpet with Anton Weidinger in mind, the same trumpet virtuoso for whom Haydn wrote is own famous concerto. Hummel's concerto was originally in the key of E-major, and Weidinger is believed to have modified some passages to ease performance. The piece is most often heard today transposed to E-flat major (the same as for Haydn's concerto) as performance is generally easier and considerably more effective in that key. This new study score, in E-flat major, is a reduced-format version of the newly-engraved large score edited by Clark McAlister first issued in 2012 by E.F. Kalmus.
