Описание: Bringing together scholars from film and television studies, media and cultural studies, literary studies, medical humanities, and disability studies, Discourses of Care collectively examines how the analysis of media texts and practices can contribute to scholarship on and understandings of health and social care, and how existing research focusing on the ethics of care can inform our understanding of media.Featuring a critical introductory essay and 13 specially commissioned original chapters, this is the first edited collection to address the relationship between media and the concept and practice of care and caregiving. Contributors consider the representation of care and caregiving through a range of forms and practices – the television documentary, photography, film, non-theatrical cinema, tabloid media, autobiography, and public service broadcasting - and engage with the labour, as well as the practical and ethical dimensions of media production. Together, they offer an original and wide ranging exploration of the various ways in which media forms represent, articulate and operate within caring relationships and practices of care; whether this is between individuals, communities as well as audiences and institutions.
Описание: The Book Story-Formed Pathways to Peace calls readers to action around a single visionmaking peace a reality. It draws on the unexpected power of stories to transform the world. The stories retold here have resonated through the ages not only with those religious but also with thinkers, artists, musicians, and others who have seen in them universal patterns of behavior. Now retold with commentary as seen through the lens of conflict and peacemaking, they illuminate pathways to peace as relevant today as when first told. Each chapter is fronted with imagined headlines of the ancient story with actual parallel headlines from the present, thus highlighting this connection of past and present. It is then in going back that pathways toward peace are illuminated for the present and future. The wisdom tradition of sacred texts is hereby extended.

Описание: Family members provide the majority of care for individuals with disabilities in the United States. Recognition is growing that family caregiving deserves and may require societal support, and evidence-based practices have been established for reducing stress associated with caregiving. Despite the substantial research literature on family support that has developed, researchers, advocates and professionals have often worked in separate categorical domains such as family support for caregiving for the frail elderly, for individuals with mental illness, or for people with development disabilities. Family Support and Family Caregiving across Disabilities addresses this significant limitation through cross-categorical and lifespan analyses of family support and family caregiving from the perspectives of theory and conceptual frameworks, empirical research, and frameworks and recommendations for improvements in public policy. The book also examines children with disabilities, children with autism, adults with schizophrenia, and individuals with cancer across the life cycle. This book was published as a two-part special issue in the Journal of Family Social Work.

Coming to terms with a loved one's diminishing health is a difficult ordeal in any situation--whether it is due to the effects of terminal illness or the progression of a mental condition like Alzheimer's or dementia, it is hard to accept the changes taking place and the inevitability of what comes next. For many people, however, this is only the beginning. Whether it be for practical reasons, financial reasons, or because of one's own convictions, many will find themselves shouldering the immense task of caring for these relatives themselves.Caregiving: A Temporary Investment into the Treasures of Heaven is the heartfelt testimony of one author's experiences as caregiver to her elderly mother. With genuine vulnerability, practical advice, a touch of humor, and abundant spiritual fortitude, this book is for caregivers in need of encouragement as they take on the physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing responsibility of caring for elderly relatives.Presented in short chapters designed to fit into the average caregiver's busy schedule, this book will provide readers with touching personal narratives, useful insight, and the constant reminder that even when the situation is most challenging--when doubt, frustration, fear, and more seem impossible to overcome--God is there to provide direction. Roles change in life. Lisa Arceri's experience for decades was as a Christian wife, mother, and business owner. In 2014, she took on the role of caregiver when her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia. Like many, Lisa faced the challenge with an open heart and little experience. She relies on the faith that carried her through other challenges in life. Lisa wants to encourage the faith and affirm the decision of those taking on the role of caring for their elderly parents at home.
