Описание: Cecilia meets Tancredo in 1934 but after some months of torrid romance he disappears. She doesnt understands what happened and tries to live her life, but never forgets him.
Years later, Tancredo shows up again. He had been imprisoned for political reasons.
In flashbacks, the story of Cecilia is told. She is the great-granddaughter of the Viscount of Itaboray, a Portuguese nobleman who went to Brazil with Don Jo o VI, the King of Portugal, when the latter fled from Napoleons invasion of Portugal and other European countries.
After his arrival in Brazil, the Viscount impregnated an enslaved Black woman, but took good care of his only son with her, giving him a good education and an inheritance.
Cecilias mother, the Viscounts spoiled granddaughter, marries a Portuguese merchant in Brazil and moves with him to Portugal when he returns to his homeland in 1914. She experiences a lot of prejudice against her as a Black woman and returns to Brazil leaving her four daughters behind in Portugal.
The story of Tancredo is also told. He is the scion of a traditional family of Brazilian coffee barons who becomes a communist leader and is later persecuted by President Get lio Vargas during his dictatorship in the 1930s and 40s.
The story is set in the events of history, during the times when the characters lived and in which, in one way or another, they took part or were witnesses. These events include the construction of the Madeira-Mamor railway through the Amazon Rainforest to Bol via at the beginning of the 1900s; the First World War and the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic, when it is believed 50 million people died; the Civil War in Spain and the Brazilian dictatorships in the 1940s, 60s, and 70s.

Описание: On the last day of the year 1802, the Maratha Peshwa Bajirao II signed the treaty of Bassein which sparked the 2nd Anglo-Maratha War. What began as a seemingly straightforward operation to restore the Peshwa and complete Lord Wellesley's expansionist policy turned into a full-scale conflict for political hegemony which spread across central and northern India and was to establish the East India Company as the foremost power in South Asia.

In military terms it saw a little-known general named Arthur Wellesley come to prominence and it also established the supremacy of the EIC's Native Army over the regular armies of the 'country powers.' It was during these testing campaigns that Europeans began to view what was already being called the 'Indian Army' with respect. Despite a series of crushing defeats, the Marathas stunned their enemies with their bravery and professionalism, exacting a heavy toll on the British despite great handicaps in command and control.

Although successful, the conclusion of the war was much less glorious than the biographies of the future Duke of Wellington care to admit. Few conflicts from this time convey in such detail the challenges faced by field commanders conducting operations in India and fewer books continue the story of the 2nd Maratha War to its ultimate conclusion in the Punjab where the last Maratha prince surrendered, this after the British 'siege lords' under Gerard Lake had been humbled before the mighty mud walls of the impregnable Jat fortress of Bharatpur.
