Описание: This book presents the main principles and methods of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, a topic studied by both chemists and physicists. This book is written for graduate students and scientists who already have knowledge of basic equilibrium statistical mechanics and who are interested in the more complex field of time-dependent nonequilibrium statistical mechanics.
Описание: Speech by Toyosaburo Taniguchi Dr. Kubo, Chairman, Distinguished Guests, and Friends, I am very happy, pleased and honored to be here this evening with so many distinguished guests, friends, and scholars from within this country and from different parts of the world.

Описание: Natural phenomena consist of simultaneously occurring transport processes and chemical reactions. These processes may interact with each other and may lead to self-organized structures, fluctuations, instabilities, and evolutionary systems. This title emphasizes the unifying role of thermodynamics in analyzing the natural phenomena.
Описание: This book studies the dynamics of fundamental collective excitations in quantum materials, focusing on the use of state-of-the-art ultrafast broadband optical spectroscopy.
Описание: This thesis sheds light on the unique dynamics of optoelectronic devices based on semiconductor quantum-dots.

Описание: Intended for graduate students in physics and chemistry, this book touches on granular matter, protein folding, phase separating and evolution kinetics. Taking glasses as a central theme, it presents the problem of slow dynamics from several angles, a ubiquitous feature in condensed matter, mechanics and biological physics.
Описание: In this book, the equilibrium and nonequilibrium properties of continuous phase transitions are studied in various systems, with a special emphasis on understanding how well-established universal traits at equilibrium may be extended into the dynamic realm, going beyond the paradigmatic Kibble–Zurek mechanism of defect formation. This book reports on the existence of a quantum phase transition in a system comprising just a single spin and a bosonic mode (the quantum Rabi model). Though critical phenomena are inherent to many-body physics, the author demonstrates that this small and ostensibly simple system allows us to explore the rich phenomenology of phase transitions, both in- and out-of-equilibrium. Moreover, the universal traits of this quantum phase transition may be realized in a single trapped-ion experiment, thus avoiding the need to scale up the number of constituents. In this system, the phase transition takes place in a suitable limit of system parameters rather than in the conventional thermodynamic limit – a novel notion that the author and his collaborators have dubbed the finite-component system phase transition. As such, the results gathered in this book will open promising new avenues in our understanding and exploration of quantum critical phenomena.

Описание: Thermodiffusion describes the coupling between a temperature gradient and a resulting mass flux. Traditionally, the focus has been on simple fluids, and it is now extending to more complex systems such as electrolytes, polymers, colloidal dispersions and magnetic fluids.

Описание: Designed for both researchers in the field and graduate students of physics, this book charts the development and theoretical analysis of molecular dynamics as applied to equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems. It connects molecular dynamics simulation with the mathematical theory to understand non-equilibrium steady states.

Описание: Shortly after Thomson and Clausius enunciated their versions of the Second Law, Clausius, Maxwell, and Boltzmann began actively pursuing the molecular basis of thermo- dynamics, work that culminated in the Boltzmann equation and the theory of transport processes in dilute gases.
