Описание: An accessible overview of the statistical analysis methods which can be used to investigate climate extremes and analyse potential risk. Illustrated with case studies, and including datasets and analysis software, it provides the necessary tools to analyse climate risk. Invaluable for students and researchers working in climate sciences.
Where the environment is concerned, regardless of scale, the logic of the Native American hummingbird which does its part should prevail. To act independently of others is indeed the sine qua non of the global shift towards a regenerative economy of humanity and ecosystems, expurgating the pervading pollution (particularly from oil use). Small- and medium-sized enterprises, which this book especially targets, do not need disproportionately-sized study facilities in order to reduce their impact on global warming.
Climatic Impact of Activities provides valuable methodological and practical support for establishing a complete and reliable diagnosis of the greenhouse effect, and for planning the corresponding corrective actions. This book guides the reader step by step in developing an informed emissions assessment with realistic and advanced case studies, in full compliance with official methodological recommendations.
Описание: This paper examines evidence regarding climate variability and extremes in agricultural areas and the impact of these on agriculture and food security.
The case studies presented provide an integrated picture of how increasing climate variability and extremes are negatively affecting agriculture, resulting in destructive secondary impacts on livelihoods, income, food prices and coping capacities. These in turn lead to increased food insecurity.
According to the study, the challenge is to scale up and accelerate actions that strengthen the resilience of food systems and livelihoods to climate variability and extremes. Integrated, rather than dissociated, disaster risk reduction and management, as well as climate adaptation policies, programmes and practices are critical.
Since 1980, the number of climate-related disasters has been greatly increased globally. Scientific consensus based on the IPCC fifth report suggested that global warming would bring more intense and frequent extreme climate events. These climate-related disasters hinder the achievement of sustainable economic growth and prosperity by disrupting supply chains, impeding production, destroying infrastructure, and necessitating high-cost rebuilding and recovery. To mitigate the climate extreme risks and possible losses, it is essential to maximize the utilization of scientific outputs and to share best practices in disaster risk management. Aligned with such purposes, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Climate Center (APCC) hosts the APEC Climate Symposium (APCS) every year. APCS focused on drought prediction and management in 2013, climate extremes and hydrological disaster in 2014, and efficient use of climate information for disaster risk management in 2015.
This book aims to compile some of the important results from the latest research in climate extreme prediction and services and its application studies with a focus on climate extremes such as typhoons, droughts, and floods based on the APCS presentations during 2013-2015.
Описание: Focusing on five different agro-climatic regions of West Bengal: the hill region, foothill region, drought region, and coastal regions of Sunderban and Purba Midnapore, it presents research related to various sectors, including the agricultural, forestry and informal sectors.
