Описание: This book shows mental health providers how to assess and treat substance use in medical settings. Clinical health psychologists often encounter patients needing interventions for substance use, yet rarely do practitioners receive specialized training in this area. Psychological Treatment of Medical Patients With Harmful Substance Use is designed for mental health providers in medical settings who need the knowledge and skills to assess and treat conditions relevant to substance use.  This book is especially useful for mental health providers who treat adult medical outpatients for whom substance use is not their primary presenting problem. The authors clarify the distinction between nonharmful and harmful substance use, describe the signs and symptoms of substance use disorders, epidemiology, current models denoting biological and socio-cultural causes, and contributing factors (with an emphasis on cardiac, cancer, women amp rsquo s health, and primary care settings). They offer best-practice assessment strategies, and psychological, self-help and pharmacological treatments.  Chapters also describe assessment and intervention for conditions that are often comorbid with substance use, including depression, anxiety, and sleep dysregulation, as well as treatment for family members who are dealing with a loved one amp rsquo s harmful substance use, relapse prevention and continuing care.

Описание:

Over the last few decades, remarkable progress has been made in understanding the aetiology and pathophysiology of diseases and many new theories emphasize the importance of the small bowel 'ecosystem' in the pathogenesis of acute and chronic illness. Emerging factors such as microbiome, stem cells, innate intestinal immunity and the enteric nervous system along with mucosal and endothelial barriers have key role in the development of gastrointestinal and extra-intestinal diseases. Therefore, the small intestine is considered key player in metabolic disease development, including diabetes mellitus, and other diet-related disorders such as celiac and non-celiac enteropathies. Another major field is drug metabolism and its interaction with microbiota. Moreover, the emergence of gut-brain, gut-liver and gut-blood barriers points toward the important role of small intestine in the pathogenesis of common disorders, such as liver disease, hypertension and neurodegenerative disease. However, the small bowel remains an organ that is difficult to fully access and assess and accurate diagnosis often poses a clinical challenge. Eventually, the therapeutic potential remains untapped. Therefore, it is due time to direct our interest towards the small intestine and unravel the interplay between small-bowel and other gastrointestinal (GI) and non-GI related maladies.

Описание: Psychopharmacological treatment of children and adolescents is a rapidly evolving field. It has become clear that a "psychopharmacological way of thinking" provides a useful model for explaining the nature of disorders to children and their families. For the clinician, a similar approach helps explain why, when, what and how to proscribe more logical. When the psychopharmacology and neurochemistry involved are understood, the choice of drug or therapy for each child is less daunting. Treatment can be tailored to specific symptoms and disease profiles, with side effects anticipated and explained. This book provides the information clinicians need to make informed choices in this complex field.
