Описание: Global economic and financial governance has undergone deep reform, transforming international institutions and groups, such as the International Monetary Fund and the G20. This book investigates the new, unsettled order now prevailing, driven by the change in the balance of power between advanced economies and key emerging economies.
Описание: China is a powerful engine of the global economy and the country's rise is undoubtedly the outcome of its protracted campaign of designing and implementing national development strategies since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. This book reviews the transformation and innovation of China's economic development strategies, especially Deng Xiaoping's Three-Step strategy and Xi Jinping's internal and external strategies. By introducing the concept of strategic paradigm, it analyzes the theoretical basis of myriads of economic development strategies and predicts China's choice. With the evolutionary process and the outstanding problems in national development planning as the main thread, it discusses the improvement of the national planning system, specifically of the national overall planning system, the regional planning system, the interplay and conflict between regional planning. It also studies the reform of city-county planning system, major function-oriented zones (MFOZs) and planning legislation and institutionalization. It also attempts to put forward proposals to coordinate the interests of planning departments and make different types of planning at different administrative levels compatible.
Описание: There is much research into strategic business alliances in emerging markets, but none focuses on this form of collaboration within Europe’s emerging economies. This is a critical absence, as the European transition region is not only different from other European and Western regions but also from other regions with developing economies. Partners in the European transition region have unique cultural and social backgrounds, and consequently, unique ways of doing business.
Transformations of Strategic Alliances in Emerging Markets focuses on this important gap. This book, the second of a two-volume set, makes a unique contribution to emerging market research by investigating the transformation of alliances in Eastern and central Europe over the past forty years. It provides a conceptual framework to describe and analyse the formation, development and functional mechanisms of strategic alliances in the European transition region, ultimately offering an in-depth overview of the challenges and opportunities around strategic alliance formation in emerging European markets.
Transformations of Strategic Alliances in Emerging Markets, Volume II, is a must-read for academics and postgraduate students of development economics and business administration

Описание:
The rapid emergence and explosive growth of China's middle class have enormous consequences for that nation's domestic future, for the global economy, and for the whole world. In China's Emerging Middle Class, noted scholar Cheng Li and a team of experts focus on the sociopolitical ramifications of the birth and growth of the Chinese middle class over the past two decades.
The contributors, from diverse disciplines and different regions, examine the development and evolution of China's middle class from a variety of analytical perspectives. What is its educational and occupational makeup? Are its members united by a common identity--by a shared political vision and worldview? How does the Chinese middle class compare with its counterparts in other countries? The contributors shed light on these and many other issues pertaining to the rapid rise of the middle class in the Middle Kingdom.

In Strategic Coupling, Henry Wai-chung Yeung examines economic development and state-firm relations in East Asia, focusing in particular on South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore. As a result of the massive changes of the last twenty-five years, new explanations must be found for the economic success and industrial transformation in the region. State-assisted startups and incubator firms in East Asia have become major players in the manufacture of products with a global reach: Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision has assembled more than 500 million iPhones, for instance, and South Korea’s Samsung provides the iPhone’s semiconductor chips and retina displays.
Drawing on extensive interviews with top executives and senior government officials, Yeung argues that since the late 1980s, many East Asian firms have outgrown their home states, and are no longer dependent on state support; as a result the developmental state has lost much of its capacity to steer and direct industrialization. We cannot read the performance of national firms as a direct outcome of state action. Yeung calls for a thorough renovation of the still-dominant view that states are the primary engine of industrial transformation. He stresses action by national firms and traces various global production networks to incorporate both firm-specific activities and the international political economy. He identifies two sets of dynamics in these national-global articulations known as strategic coupling: coevolution in the confluence of state, firm, and global production networks, and the various strategies pursued by East Asian firms to attain competitive positions in the global marketplace.

Описание:
In the last decade the OECD has undergone a period of transformation under the leadership of Secretary-General Angel Gurria and his senior management, a transformation that has revitalised its operations and outputs. Now celebrating its 60th anniversary, it provides an increasingly valuable resource for its members and other governments worldwide. This book focuses on the policy-related advice, evidence-based global standards, trusted statistics and analysis, and support for policy reform that it has developed.
It commences with a brief history of the OECD and its key decision processes and then moves on to examine the impact of its leadership in driving a wide range of achievements and in securing an expanding, increasingly global role. It then focuses on the organisation’s green agenda and the move to measure living conditions in a more detailed fashion, rather than relying largely on GDP, and on the inclusive growth project that aims at making markets work for all.
After an examination of the OECD’s remarkably influential work in education, including PISA, TALIS and PIAAC, the focus is upon the work on the importance of innovation and the Digital Economy in driving economic growth, work that demonstrates the capacity of the OECD to embrace new areas of work.
The OECD’s partnership with the G20 in the push for stronger international cooperation and transparency in tax matters is then examined, as well their inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit shifting (BEPS), aimed at tackling tax evasion.
The OECD’s strategic response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the drive to develop ‘Smart Data’ are the last two topics covered. The response to COVID rests upon the work that has been done on both health and crisis management, while the Smart Data Strategy was launched in 2018 to modernise the OECD’s data capabilities and to harness new sources and techniques, in partnership with members and other international organisations.
