Описание: In February of 1945, during the final months of the Third Reich, Eva Noack-Mosse was deported to the Nazi concentration camp of Theresienstadt. A trained journalist and expert typist, she was put to work in the Central Evidence office of the camp, compiling endless lists—inmates arriving, inmates deported, possessions confiscated from inmates, and all the obsessive details required by the SS. With access to camp records, she also recorded statistics and her own observations in a secret diary.Noack-Mosse's aim in documenting the horrors of daily life within Theresienstadt was to ensure that such a catastrophe could never be repeated. She also gathered from surviving inmates information about earlier events within the walled fortress, witnessed the defeat and departure of the Nazis, saw the arrival of the International Red Cross and the Soviet Army takeover of the camp and town, assisted in administration of the camp's closure, and aided displaced persons in discovering the fates of their family and friends. After the war ended, and she returned home, Noack-Mosse cross-referenced her data with that of others to provide evidence of Nazi crimes. At least 35,000 people died at Theresienstadt and another 90,000 were sent on to death camps.

Описание: "Sold, 21 Jews to the Gestapo for 600 kr." That was the headline on the front page of EkstraBladet in 1945. The article was about two informers who had informed the Gestapo that a Jewish escape to Sweden would take place from the Chemical Factory at Amager Strandvej. Those Jews included two-year-old Ib Katznelson and his family. Katznelson is the first to thoroughly analyze what happened at the Chemical Factory. Ib relates his mother's and father's stories, along with those of others in the camp by means of testimonies, letters, and historical documentation.

Описание: As a force that had to serve two masters, both the Jewish population of the Kovno ghetto in Lithuania and its German occupiers, the Kovno Jewish ghetto police walked a fine line between helping Jews survive and meeting Nazi orders. In 1942 and 1943 some of its members secretly composed this history and buried it in tin boxes. The book offers a rare glimpse into the complex situation faced by the ghetto leadership and the Jewish policemen, caught between carrying out the demands of the Germans and mollifying the anger and frustration of their own people. It details the creation and organization of the ghetto, the violent German attacks on the population in the summer of 1941, the periodic selections of Jews to be deported and killed, the labor required of the surviving Jewish population, and the efforts of the police to provide a semblance of stability. The secret history tells a dramatic and complicated story, defending the actions of the police force on one page and berating its leadership on the next. A substantial introduction by distinguished historian Samuel D. Kassow places this powerful work within the context of the history of the Kovno Jewish community and its experience and fate at the hands of the Nazis.

Описание: Notes from the Warsaw Ghetto is the moving account of the horror of the Warsaw Ghetto-written by the recognized archivist and historian of the area while he lived through it. Through anecdotes, stories, and notations-some as brief as was slapped today in Zlota Street-there emerges the agonizing, eyewitness accounts of human beings caught in the furor of senseless, unrelenting brutality. In the Journal, there is the whole of life in the Ghetto, from the erection of the Wall, in November 1940, for hygienic reasons, through the brief period of deceptive calm to the eventual mass murders. It is a portrait of man tested by crisis, stained at times by the meanness of avarice and self-preservation, illumined more often by moments of nobility. Language Notes: English, Yiddish (translation) Emmanual Ringelblum was 39 when he began his notes. When the Germans first invaded Poland, Ringelblum, who could have stayed abroad and escaped, returned to Warsaw from Switzerland knowing that his was an historical event of importance for his people and a moment in time that must be forever a part of written history. As the recognized archivist of the Ghetto he gathered around him a staff, and assigned each to cover a specific part of Ghetto life. From these reports and this notes, he assembled his Journal. On March 7, 1944, Emmanual Ringelblum was executed among the ruins of Warsaw, together with his wife, his son, and thirt-eight others who shared his hiding place.

Описание: Across history the ghetto has served to maintain social, religious, and racial hierarchies. This volume is structured around four case studies: the first ghettos created for Jews in early modern Europe; the Nazi use of ghettos; the enclosure of African Americans in segregated areas in the U.S.; and the segregation of blacks in South Africa.
Following the Axis invasion of Greece, the Nazis began persecuting the country's Jews much as they had across the rest of occupied Europe, beginning with small indignities and culminating in mass imprisonment and deportations. Among the many Jews confined to the Thessaloniki ghetto during this period were Sarina Saltiel, Mathilde Barouh, and Neama Cazes--three women bound for Auschwitz who spent the weeks before their deportation writing to their sons. Do Not Forget Me brings together these remarkable pieces of correspondence, shocking accounts of life in the ghetto with an emotional intensity rare even by the standards of Holocaust testimony.
The Germans invaded Poland on Friday, the 1st of September 1939 and entered Czenstochow on Sunday, the 3rd. This invasion was the beginning of the end of the Jewish community, which had existed in Czenstochow for hundreds of years. The Jewish population of approximately 30,000 men, women and children enjoyed an active economic, political, cultural and religious life. All of it was erased.
Resistance and Death in the Czenstochow Ghetto tells the story of the brave but mostly unsuccessful fight for life by the Czenstochower Jews and of their tragic death, of the annihilation of a vibrant community. Their story is important as a historical tale of their existence and as first-hand evidence of what happened to them and to Jewish Czenstochow.

Описание:
This extraordinary book is a collection of memories from child survivors of the Minsk Ghetto, Belarus. These are rare and moving personal testimonies, and this is a book of some significance for it opens a window on the rarely told story of the Holocaust in Belarus, in particular the Minsk Ghetto. Between 1941 and 1943 approximately 80,000 Jews lived in or pass through that place of terror; as a result of starvation and repeated brutal pogroms most did not survive. A few were helped by brave Byelorussian locals who risked their own lives to save them. Others, many of them mere children like the narrators of these stories, managed to escape to the partisans living in the nearby forests. Having reached the relative safety of partisan camps, some even returned to Minsk to rescue their families and neighbours. Several of their dangerous missions are described within the pages of this powerful book. These stories which recount the memories of the Minsk Ghetto survivors are a testimony to the extraordinary power and resilience of the human spirit.
