Описание:
As an expert in structure and stress analysis, the author has written extensively on functionally graded materials (FGMs), nonlinear vibration and dynamic response of functionally graded material plates in thermal environments, buckling and postbuckling analysis of single-walled carbon nanotubes in thermal environments. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the author's works which include significant contributions to the postbuckling behavior of plates and shells under different loading and environmental conditions.
This book comprises eight chapters. Each chapter contains adequate introductory material so that an engineering graduate who is familiar with basic understanding of plates and shells will be able to follow it.
Chapter 1 introduces higher order shear deformation plate theory and the derivation of the nonlinear equations of shear deformable plates in the von K rm n sense.
Chapter 2, covers the postbuckling behavior of thin plates due to in-plane compressive loads or temperature variation.
Chapter 3 presents analytical solutions of moderately thick isotropic plates without or resting on elastic foundations.
Chapter 4 furnishes a detailed treatment of the postbuckling problems of shear deformable laminated plates subjected to thermal, electrical, and mechanical loads.
Chapter 5 put forward a concepts of boundary layer theory for shell buckling and isotropic cylindrical shells.
Chapter 6 extends this novel theory to the cases of anisotropic laminated cylindrical thin shells.
Chapter 7 presents postbuckling analysis of shear deformable laminated cylindrical shells under the framework of boundary layer theory.
Chapter 8 deals with postbuckling behavior of laminated cylindrical panels under various loading conditions.

Описание: Theorists know that when, at last, theories began to appear, architects distrusted them, partly because they often disregarded details of importance in actual construction, partly because nobody but a mathematician could understand the aim and func- tion of a mathematical theory designed to represent an aspect of nature.

Описание:
A consistent theory for thin anisotropic layered structures is developed starting from asymptotic analysis of 3D equations in linear elasticity. The consideration is not restricted to the traditional boundary conditions along the faces of the structure expressed in terms of stresses, originating a new type of boundary value problems, which is not governed by the classical Kirchhoff-Love assumptions. More general boundary value problems, in particular related to elastic foundations are also studied.
The general asymptotic approach is illustrated by a number of particular problems for elastic and thermoelastic beams and plates. For the latter, the validity of derived approximate theories is investigated by comparison with associated exact solution. The author also develops an asymptotic approach to dynamic analysis of layered media composed of thin layers motivated by modeling of engineering structures under seismic excitation.
Описание: This book is focused on the introduction of the finite difference method based on the classical one-dimensional structural members, i.e., rods/bars and beams.

Описание: With the rap1d development of computational capab1lities, nonl1near f1nite element analys1s 1n structural mechan1CS has become an 1mportant field of research. Its objective is the real1stic assessment of the actual behaV10r of structures by numerical methods. Th1S requires that all nonlinear effects, such as the nonl1near character1stics of the mater1al and large deformations be taken 1nto account. The act1vities in th1S f1eld be1ng worldw1de, d1rect 1nteraction between the various research groups 1S necessary to coordinate future research and to overcome the time gap between the generat10n of new results and the1r appearance 1n the 11terature. The f1rst U.S.-Germany Sympos1um was held 1n 1976 at the Massachusetts Inst1tute of Technology. Under the general to- P1C "Formulat1ons and Computat1onal Algorithms in Fin1te Ele- ment Analysis" 1t prov1ded an opportun1ty for about 20 re- searchers from each country to present lectures, hold discus- sions, and establ1sh mutual contacts. The success of th1S first sympos1um was so encourag1ng that 1t seemed natural to organ- 1ze a second bilateral meet1ng, this time 1n Germany, and to 1nv1te researchers from other European countr1es as well.
